Xcel Energy seeks an Apprentice Hydro Operator for the Trego Hydro Plant in Trego, Wisconsin. The role may advance to Journeyman; apprentice pay starts at 60% of the Journeyman rate of $49.15/hr, with a base journeyman of $49.15/hr. The posting runs Aug 17, 2026 through Sep 4, 2026.

The duties include periodic operation, inspections, and maintenance at the Trego plant and at other sites, with potential move within apprenticeship and after journeyman.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Technical/Associate degree in hydraulics, mechanics, or electrical field preferred.
• Mechanical or electrical experience in an industrial setting preferred.
• Hydro or power plant experience preferred.
• Must pass the EEl Plant Personnel Test.
• Must reside within 20 miles of the hydro plant within 6 months.
• CDL preferred; DOT drug and alcohol testing may apply.

Responsibilities

• Operate, inspect, and maintain hydro plant equipment.
• Occasionally work at other plants and reservoirs.
• Position may be filled as Journeyman or Apprentice based on qualifications.
• Company may move employee during apprenticeship and after journeyman status.
