HNTB’s Raleigh, NC office is seeking a Project Engineer - Team Lead to join our Hydraulics design team. You will produce design calculations, technical reports, plans and specs for assigned projects, working with the project manager on research, calculations and delivery.

Mentoring junior engineers and guiding the team are core parts of this role. We value strong project leadership, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and delivering high-quality results for North Carolina infrastructure projects,

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 6 years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree in Engineering and 5 years of relevant experience, or PhD in Engineering and 4 years of relevant experience

Responsibilities

  • Plan and distribute discipline-specific work, and adhere to schedule and budget on projects.
  • Assist in marketing responsibilities, including proposal generation.
  • Develop scope of work and level of effort for projects and/or assignments within discipline.
  • Oversee completeness and accuracy of project team’s work within the technical discipline; mentor team to objectives.
  • Coordinate technical aspects of project with client counterpart and teaming partners at staff level.
  • Work closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.
  • Recruit, hire, develop and retain staff, including plan for staff reporting, performance and compensation reviews, and succession; coordinate schedules and timecards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

HNTB’s Raleigh, NC office is seeking a Project Engineer - Team Lead to join our Hydraulics design team. Our team is currently working on some of the most complex projects in North Carolina for NCDOT. We are dedicated to enhancing our communities, solving infrastructure challenges for our client and increasing transit and pedestrian/bicycle mobility. As a Hydraulics Project Engineer, you will be responsible for the production and modification of design calculations, technical reports, engineering plans and specifications for assigned projects. This position works closely with the project manager to perform research, development, calculations, design and delivery. Applies engineering techniques, procedures and design criteria for projects ranging in size and complexity. Leverages technical knowledge, experience and client relationships to assist in the execution and evaluation of project designs. Develops conceptual and detailed designs and calculations to support the project execution using current drawing and technical tools, programs and software. You will also be responsible to mentor, train and review work of junior engineer staff and provide constructive feedback. As a member of the team, you will contribute to the successful project delivery for a diverse range of projects for HNTB’s clients.

What You’ll Need


  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 6 years of relevant experience, or

  • Master’s degree in Engineering and 5 years of relevant experience, or

  • PhD in Engineering and 4 years of relevant experience


What You’ll Bring


  • Understands the impacts of decisions on technical design and work planning.

  • Coordinates work planning and design effectively across multiple technical disciplines.

  • Prepares high quality deliverables that are on time, and within budget and scope.


What We Prefer


  • Master’s degree in Engineering

  • 8 years relevant experience

  • NC Professional Engineer (PE) certification

  • Experience with OpenRoads Designer and HECRAS

  • Familiar with Erosion Control Plan and Permit Drawing Development

  • Strong understanding of NCDOT Standards and Design Manuals
