Shield AI is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to contribute to the mechanical design of autonomous UAV products. You will architect new products, design complex hydraulic systems, and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to prototype, test, and release production hardware.

The role emphasizes CAD proficiency (NX), structural/FEA analysis, GD&T, and a track record of reliable, fast-paced design work. A security clearance is desirable but not mandatory.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering is required.
• 2+ years in mechanical or mechanism design with a focus on fluid systems.
• Strong CAD skills (NX preferred).
• Kinematic analysis and optimization.
• Structural analysis using hand calculations and FEM.
• FEA: Modal, non-linear, linear, buckling, fatigue.
• GD&T and tolerance stack-ups for mechanical systems.
• Materials selection incl. alloys, heat treatments, finishes.

Responsibilities

• Design complex hydraulic fluid systems for autonomous aircraft launch and recovery.
• Support full design process: concept, CAD, tolerance analysis, material selection, drawing release.
• Perform structural calculations and preliminary FEA.
• Prototype, test, and iterate mechanism designs.
• Collaborate with electrical, avionics, flight controls, manufacturing, and test teams.
• Support pre-production builds, prototype integration, and ground/flight testing.
• Participate in design reviews and technical decision forums on hydraulic systems.
• Identify opportunities to improve design processes and team workflows.
