Job summary

Ecology Auto Parts, Inc. seeks a skilled Diesel Mechanic (Level 2) with strong hydraulic experience to support our fleet of Class 8 trucks and trailers. You will diagnose, install, and service hydraulic and diesel components while meeting OEM and DOT standards in a fast-paced shop.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; vocational training preferred.
  • Minimum 3+ years as a diesel mechanic with at least 1 year hydraulic/wet kit installs.
  • Knowledge of PTO systems, hydraulic setups, tanks and control mechanisms.
  • Own tools and experience with diagnostics and power tools.

Responsibilities

  • Install wet kits, hydraulic pumps, tanks, lines, valves, and PTO systems on Class 8 trucks.
  • Diagnose and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including leaks and pressure issues.
  • Service diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, suspensions, and electrical components per OEM standards.
  • Collaborate with senior mechanics on build specs and install configurations.
  • Ensure all hydraulic work meets DOT safety standards and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Document work orders, parts usage, and service notes in the maintenance system.
  • Use hand tools, diagnostic software, welding equipment, and hydraulic testing gauges.
  • Monitor hydraulic parts inventory and assist with restocking.
  • Support preventative maintenance, emergency repairs, and inspections as assigned.
  • Participate in safety meetings and toolbox talks.

HYDRAULIC / WET KIT INSTALLS DIESEL MECHANIC

Department: Fleet & Maintenance

Location: Long Beach Shop

Office Hours/Days: 0700 - 1630 (M-F)

Classification: Full-Time, Non-exempt

Position Summary

Ecology Auto Parts, Inc. is currently seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic (Level 2) with strong hydraulic systems experience, specifically in wet kit installations for PTOs (Power Take-Off units). The ideal candidate will demonstrate technical proficiency in diesel engine systems, hydraulic setups, troubleshooting, and safety standards in heavy-duty fleet environments. This role is essential to supporting Ecology's diverse fleet of trucks and trailers to ensure uptime, safety, and operational excellence.

Responsibilities
  • Perform professional installation of wet kits, hydraulic pumps, tanks, lines, valves, and PTO systems on Class 8 diesel trucks.
  • Conduct diagnostics and repairs on hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including troubleshooting leaks, pressure failures, and mechanical malfunctions.
  • Service, inspect, and maintain diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, suspensions, and electrical components in accordance with OEM standards.
  • Collaborate with senior mechanics and management on build specifications and install configurations for various truck body applications.
  • Ensure all hydraulic and mechanical work is completed to DOT safety standards and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Maintain proper documentation of work orders, parts usage, and service notes in the maintenance system.
  • Use hand tools, diagnostic software, welding equipment, and hydraulic testing gauges as necessary for repairs and installs.
  • Monitor inventory of hydraulic parts and recommend restocking when needed.
  • Support other maintenance operations including preventative service, emergency repairs, and inspections as assigned.
  • Participate in safety meetings, training programs, and toolbox talks to promote a safe and compliant working environment.
Requirements
Qualifications/Knowledge/Critical Skills
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical/vocational school certification preferred.
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience as a diesel mechanic, with at least 1 year specializing in hydraulic systems and wet kit installs.
  • Knowledge of PTO systems, hydraulic pump setups, tank configurations, and control mechanisms.
  • Must have own tools and experience using diagnostic equipment and power tools.
  • Working knowledge of diesel engine systems (Cummins, CAT, Detroit, etc.), DEF systems, electrical diagnostics, and air brake systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and hydraulic schematics.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and Fleet Maintenance software is a plus.
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license; Class A or B license preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a fast-paced shop environment.
Physical Demands/Environmental Factors
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, bend, kneel, crawl, and lift tools or parts.
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
  • Work involves exposure to dust, noise, grease, and diesel fumes.
  • May be required to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Must adhere to all company safety protocols including PPE usage and equipment lockout/tagout procedures.
Compensation

The Diesel Mechanic (Level 2) position offers an appealing compensation package, with a competitive hourly wage range of $25.00 to $37.00 per hour (DOE).
