Job summary

Apex Companies is seeking a Hydraulic Engineer to lead the planning, design, and delivery of water resources projects in Boise, Idaho. You will perform hydraulic analyses, contribute to 1D/2D modeling, and support permitting and field activities with a collaborative team.

The ideal candidate has a B.S. in Civil Engineering, 5+ years in hydraulics, and familiarity with HEC-RAS, SRH-2D, and FEMA floodplain processes.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Civil Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or a related field.
• Professional Engineer (PE) registration preferred.
• 5+ years of Civil Engineering experience with exposure to hydraulic modeling, hydrology, drainage, or water resources.
• Strong understanding of basic hydraulics and hydrology principles.
• Experience with or interest in developing proficiency with 1D/2D HEC-RAS and/or SMS SRH-2D.
• Familiarity with HEC-18, HEC-20, and HEC-23 is preferred.
• Experience with HY-8 is a plus.
• Familiarity with FEMA floodplain management, modeling, and permitting is preferred.
• Experience with Aquatic Organism Passage (AOP) is desirable.
• Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team.

Responsibilities

• Support planning, design, and delivery of hydraulic and water resources projects for public and private clients.
• Perform hydraulic and hydrologic analyses for bridges, culverts, floodplains, drainage systems, and stormwater projects.
• Assist with 1D/2D hydraulic and surface water modeling using HEC-RAS and SMS SRH-2D.
• Support bridge hydraulics, scour evaluations, culvert design, and floodplain analysis.
• Prepare engineering calculations, reports, plans, specs, and other project documents.
• Assist with FEMA floodplain modeling, management, and permitting (LOMR/CLOMR).
• Support drainage, gravity, irrigation, and stormwater system modeling and design.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams for project delivery.
• Assist with permitting and coordination with clients, contractors, municipalities, and regulatory agencies.
• Participate in field investigations, site visits, and construction support as needed.
• Develop technical skills with senior engineers and assume increasing project responsibilities.
• Provide technical support to project teams and promote a collaborative, quality-driven environment.

Your Responsibilities as a Hydraulic Engineer:

• Support the planning, design, and delivery of hydraulic and water resources projects for public and private-sector clients.
• Perform hydraulic and hydrologic analyses for bridge openings, culverts, floodplains, drainage systems, and stormwater management projects.
• Assist with 1D and 2D hydraulic and surface water modeling using tools such as HEC-RAS and SMS SRH-2D.
• Support bridge hydraulic and scour evaluations, culvert design, floodplain analysis, drainage design, and stormwater management projects.
• Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, plans, specifications, and other project documentation.
• Assist with FEMA floodplain modeling, management, and permitting, including LOMR/CLOMR applications as applicable.
• Support drainage, gravity, irrigation, and stormwater system modeling and design.
• Coordinate with civil, transportation, environmental, survey, structural, and other multidisciplinary teams to support project delivery.
• Assist with permitting and coordination with clients, contractors, municipalities, and regulatory agencies.
• Participate in field investigations, site visits, and construction support as needed.
• Work closely with senior engineers and project managers to develop technical skills and take on increasing levels of project responsibility.
• Provide technical support to project teams and contribute to a collaborative environment focused on quality project delivery and professional growth.

What we're looking for:

• B.S. in Civil Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or a related field
