Job summary

Waterous Company in South St. Paul seeks an assembler to build fire hydrants and underground valves. You will assemble components, apply electrostatic paint, and operate forklifts on a busy shop floor, maintaining safety and quality.

The position favors 1+ year manufacturing experience, strong mechanical aptitude, and the ability to lift up to 80 pounds. Most shifts are 2nd/3rd with overtime; union membership begins after 30 days, and benefits start after 30 days.

Qualifications

  • Perform assembly work using pneumatic and various hand tools.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to read prints and assembly instructions.
  • Age 18 or over; pass MAPS assessment and background checks.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble fire hydrants, underground valves and related products—ensure correct alignment, securing and testing.
  • Electrostatic painting with primer and paint using safe equipment.
  • Operate fork trucks and other powered equipment on the shop floor.
  • Perform basic janitorial duties to maintain a safe workplace.

Annual allowance towards safety shoes ($200).ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES• Assemble fire hydrants, underground valves and related products – Assemble fire hydrants and underground valves. Ensure all components are correctly aligned, secured and tested for functionality. Accuracy and attention to detail are crucial as these products are safety related.• Electrostatic painting – applying electrically charged paint ensuring a durable and even coating to required specifications. Applying primer and paint with automated and manual paint equipment safely. Safety measures are critical, as electrostatic painting involves working with specialized equipment and handling potentially hazardous materials.• Operate fork truck and other powered industrial equipment – moving heavy materials and assembled products within the shop floor and yard with sit down and stand up forklifts. This requires training in safe operation, knowledge of weight limits, and awareness of safety protocols to prevent accidents• Janitorial duties – this involves basic cleaning to ensure a safe, efficient and organized work environmentHOURLY RATE:$ 36.90 plus shift differential ($1.25/hour for 2nd shift) after completing the probationary period. ($31.36 during probation period + $1.25/ shift differential if training on second shift)EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE & ABILITIES• Perform assembly work using pneumatic and various hand tools.• Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to read prints and assembly instructions is preferred.• Continuously lift, stand, twist and occasionally squat, reach (including above head) and bend.• Occasionally lift and carry parts that weigh between 50 and 80 pounds.• 1+ years work experience in a heavy manual/laborer position, manufacturing experience a plus.• Work with others in a team environment.• Age 18 or over• Pass all assessments of MAPS test (Manufacturing Applicant Profile System)• Criminal background checks and prior employment reference checks are conducted• Pass post offer physical examination, drug screen, and physical capabilities assessment test• 2nd and 3rd shift primarily, but must have ability to work any shift. • Able to work daily and Saturday overtime when scheduled.• Join the Union after 30 days
