Job summary

Washington County’s Solid Waste & Recycling Division in the Health and Human Services Department seeks an experienced leader to serve as Solid Waste & Recycling Manager. You will guide a team of 16, oversee a $42 million collection system and a $2.9 million operating budget, and ensure compliance with applicable local, regional, and state requirements.

Qualifications

• Master's Degree in environmental science, public administration, natural sciences, or a related field; AND Four (4) years of experience in solid waste management, recycling, or a related field, with at least two (2) years in lead or supervisory roles.
• Bachelor's Degree in environmental science, public administration, natural sciences, or related field; AND Six (6) years of experience in solid waste management, recycling, or related field, with at least two (2) years in lead or supervisory roles.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership to a team of 16.
• Manage regulatory responsibility for a $42 million garbage and recycling collection system and the division's $2.9 million operating budget.
• Ensure compliance with local, regional, and state requirements.
• Engage with state, regional, city governments and partner agencies.
• Advise county leadership on materials management strategies and regulations.
• Build partnerships across cities, regional agencies, haulers, and boards.
• Represent the division at public meetings and cross-departmental workgroups.
