Job summary

ESS Companies (ESSC) seeks a Digital Designer to own UI/UX design across our brand family, collaborating with developers and marketing while evolving the ESSC Enterprise Design System.

The role requires 4–6 years in UI/UX with a strong portfolio, a Bachelor’s degree, and fluency in Figma. Hybrid schedule with Kansas City office; regional travel may be needed. Join a 100% employee‑owned family of civil construction firms.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in UI/UX Design, Interaction Design, Visual Communications, or a related discipline.
• 4–6 years of UI/UX design experience with a portfolio demonstrating marketing/brochure site work and product or application design.
• Strong systems thinking—components, tokens, patterns.
• Fluency in Figma with auto-layout, variables, component architecture, prototyping, and sitemap/flow documentation.

Responsibilities

• Planning & Discovery – conduct discovery, gather input, develop sitemaps and user flows; synthesize research and feedback.
• Design & Execution – own day-to-day UI/UX design across ESSC brand sites; collaborate with developers; evolve the Design System.
• Quality & Delivery – test across browsers/devices; manage workload; define UX standards and best practices.
• Collaboration & Ongoing Support – work with marketing/tech teams; maintain design systems and UI style guides; analyze data and performance metrics.
