Job summary

Sonoma Water is seeking a Water Agency Senior Environmental Specialist to serve as Tribal Liaison. You will build trust with Tribal communities, advise on land use, environmental reviews, and water resources projects in the Russian River watershed, and represent the Agency in tribal consultations.

The role requires negotiation with Tribal governments, deep knowledge of Native culture and CEQA AB 52 processes, strong communication and public engagement, and willingness to travel to project sites

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in planning, engineering, water-related, physical, and/or biological sciences, environmental studies, environmental law, natural resource or watershed management, or a closely related field.
3+ years of experience in environmental resources, water planning, or tribal liaison work.
Experience with AB 52 and CEQA environmental review for Tribal stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Prepare and review documents in compliance with environmental laws and regulations.
Plan and review tribal resource evaluation and consideration.
Communicate project information to Tribal representatives and coordinate tribal participation.
Coordinate with Tribes in reviewing projects and environmental documents and respond to tribal comments.
Manage tribal monitoring agreements and consultant collaborations.
Attend meetings in office, virtual, or field settings and engage with staff and managers.
Update leadership to implement strategic positions on tribal consultations.
