Job summary

NetApp is seeking experienced Systems Software Engineers to contribute to core storage and data management technologies across ONTAP, WAFL, and related NetApp products. You will work on filesystems, storage internals, distributed systems, and performance tuning.

Candidates should have strong C/C++ expertise, Unix/Linux skills, and experience with debugging complex code paths. This role offers hybrid work and opportunities across multiple teams.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in C/C++ for systems-level development.
• Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, memory management, and concurrency.
• Experience with Unix/Linux systems programming.
• Experience with filesystems, storage systems, networking/protocol stacks, distributed systems, HA architectures.
• Strong debugging and performance analysis skills (gdb, perf, tracing).
• Ability to write maintainable, well-documented code.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement features within ONTAP and NetApp storage systems.
• Write efficient, reliable C/C++ code that is maintainable.
• Analyze and improve code paths for performance, scalability, and correctness; debug complex issues.
• Collaborate with filesystem, protocol, cloud, hardware, and QA teams.
• Participate in design and code reviews, advancing engineering best practices.
• Investigate performance bottlenecks and implement optimizations.
• Support prototyping and feasibility analysis for new ideas.
• Communicate design decisions and technical findings clearly.
• Use AI-assisted tools to accelerate development and debugging.
