Job summary

National Solar Observatory seeks a Systems Administrator/Cybersecurity Engineer to strengthen IT infrastructure, protect assets, and lead security and high-visibility IT projects. The dual role combines cybersecurity process development with comprehensive systems administration across Linux, MacOS, and Windows environments.

Responsibilities include designing security controls, incident response, documentation, and supporting NSO facilities.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of prior relevant experience across Linux, Windows, and MacOS.
• Hands-on enterprise network administration experience.
• Strong problem solving, documentation, and procedural skills.
• Ability to work independently and on a distributed team, including remote work.

Responsibilities

• Operate and secure IT infrastructure, monitor security incidents, and lead security projects.
• Maintain server OS, virtualization (VMware), and network services.
• Provide technical support, documentation, and user assistance to NSO staff.
• Coordinate with leadership on IT design, policy enforcement, and risk mitigation.
