Job summary

Bunzl Distribution NA is seeking a Senior Director of Accounting to lead a multi-location accounting organization, ensuring timely closes, accurate reporting, and strong internal controls in a hybrid role based in Morton Grove, IL or St. Louis, MO.

The role demands senior leadership, deep GAAP knowledge, and a hands-on ability to drive process improvements, automation, and collaboration across Finance, Tax, IT, and Operations. CPA with 12+ years of experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
• CPA designation strongly preferred.
• 12+ years of progressive accounting experience in a complex environment.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting.
• Experience with month-end close, audits, and internal controls.
• Experience leading multi-location or matrix teams.
• Excellent executive communication and analytical skills.
• Advanced Excel and ERP/accounting systems expertise.
• Experience with consolidations and reporting tools like Power BI.

Responsibilities

• Lead monthly, quarterly, half-year, and annual close processes.
• Oversee journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and close.
• Ensure U.S. GAAP compliance and policy adherence.
• Prepare internal and external financial statements.
• Strengthen internal controls and standardize processes.
• Manage general ledger integrity.
• Coordinate annual audits and tax filings.
• Lead and develop accounting leaders and remote teams.
• Drive process improvements and system enhancements.
• Support mergers and strategic initiatives.
