Job summary

Colorado State Library, a unit of the Colorado Department of Education, seeks an experienced State Librarian to guide statewide library development, resource sharing, and services. You will lead ~40 staff with a $10 million budget and shape partnerships across Colorado’s library ecosystem.

The role offers hybrid or remote work within Colorado, with travel up to 25% statewide and occasional national meetings. Salary ranges from $135,000 to $175,000, commensurate with experience.

Qualifications

• ALA-accredited master’s degree in library science.
• Seven years of progressively responsible library experience, including five years of administrative experience.
• Ability to work in Colorado and travel statewide.
• Ability to pass a background check.
• Hold a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Provide statewide leadership, support, and vision for libraries and library-related institutions across Colorado; foster a cooperative, team-based environment for staff.
• Oversee resource sharing, grants, research, and other statewide services; create and implement the Library’s budget with fiscal leadership.
• Advise the Commissioner and senior leadership on library matters; coordinate with state education agencies and partners.
