Job summary

The Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) seeks a seasoned leader to become the State Wildland Fire Aviation Manager, directing the Aviation Unit’s operations, safety, and policy. You will oversee statewide aviation capability, staff, and contracts to ensure rapid, coordinated wildfire response across Oregon.

You’ll provide strategic direction, lead safety initiatives, and ensure compliance with FAA regulations while supporting district operations and interagency coordination.

Qualifications

• Three years of professional level experience in Aviation Management, Supervision, Evaluative, Analytical and/or Planning work.
• At least one year in a natural resource program with data analysis, laws/regulations, or project coordination.
• Requires a bachelor’s degree as described; or three additional years of related experience.

Responsibilities

• Direct statewide aviation operations for coordinated wildfire response.
• Develop and manage aviation contracts and agreements.
• Ensure district compliance with policy and FAA regulations and oversee safety.
• Provide staff support and strategic direction for the Aviation Unit.
