McGuireWoods LLP seeks a Patent Agent to draft original patent applications, respond to USPTO office actions, and handle routine correspondence with the USPTO.

The ideal candidate must be USPTO registered, hold a degree in Engineering or Chemistry, and have 3+ years of patent drafting and prosecution experience. The firm offers a hybrid remote option and a platform of leading legal solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Science with at least three years drafting, filing and prosecuting patent applications.
• Must be registered to practice before the USPTO.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills; able to handle confidential communications.
• Interest in using AI technology to support high-impact work.

Responsibilities

• Writes new patent applications for filing at USPTO.
• Analyzes and revises patent agreements; assists with appeals, inferences, reexaminations, interviews and reissues.
• Negotiates and drafts patent agreements; prepares documents for filing and processing.
• Drafts responses to USPTO office actions.
• Performs patentability and freedom-to-operate searches, publication clearance reviews and assists in maintaining an active prosecution docket.
