Job summary

The City of Renton is seeking a detail-oriented Permit Specialist to support development and permitting operations. This role serves as a key contact for applicants, developers, City staff and the public, coordinating permit applications from pre-application through review, approval and issuance.

The ideal candidate will have strong organizational and communication skills, experience in a government permitting environment, and the ability to apply building code requirements.

Qualifications

• Three years of experience working with the public in an office setting, including at least one year in a government permit-issuing office or code enforcement.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, ICC Permit Technician certification.
• Background check must be successfully passed.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate plan review processes from pre-application to permit issuance.
• Route plans for review and act as liaison between applicants and reviewers.
• Review applications for completeness and accuracy for further processing.
• Issue permits and perform final quality checks in electronic plan reviews.
• Maintain accurate permit records and respond to inquiries from the public.
