Job summary

Credit Union 1 Alaska in Anchorage is seeking a MA Legal Specialist to manage bankruptcy, probate, and legal accounts for the Member Assistance team. You will ensure accurate records, timely follow-up, and professional communication with members, attorneys, and other parties.

Qualifications

• 2-year degree in legal studies or paralegal certificate required; at least 2 years as paralegal, legal secretary or similar.
• Financial institution experience preferred.
• Knowledge of bankruptcy, probate, court proceedings and court representation; SCRA knowledge required.
• Strong clerical, communication and organizational skills.
• Compliance with BSA/AML, OFAC and related regulations.

Responsibilities

• Review bankruptcy proceedings, file proof of claim and related actions with timely follow-up.
• Initiate claims against estates in probate and work with executor to satisfy obligations.
• Communicate with members, attorneys and parties in writing, in person or by phone.
• Monitor accounts and logs; process payments for accounts in bankruptcy or legal status.
• Update account information promptly for changes in address, name, phone, or legal actions.
• Initiate legal actions as needed and see them through to completion.
• Represent the credit union at court hearings when required.
• Prepare lists of accounts for process servers for executions and garnishments.
• Monitor court distribution inbox and calendar trial dates; log documents into OnBase.
• Coordinate notifications from executions and meet filing deadlines to obtain funds.
