Job summary

The Town of Riverdale Park, Maryland is seeking a strategic, hands-on Communications Manager to lead the Town's community engagement and ensure residents, businesses, and stakeholders receive clear and timely information.

This leadership role requires strong writing, strategic thinking, and the ability to move from strategy to execution, including media relations, digital communications, and crisis communications. Hybrid work options and a comprehensive benefits package are included.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Minimum of five (5) years of professional communications, media relations, or public information experience.
• Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
• Experience managing digital platforms, websites, and social media.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver under pressure.
• Strong judgment, discretion, and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Lead and execute the Town’s communications and public engagement strategy
• Serve as the primary media contact and manage all public information requests, including MPIA
• Write, edit, and deliver high-quality content across all platforms—press releases, newsletters, website, and official communications
• Produce and oversee the Town Crier and digital communications (email, social media, website)
• Record and prepare official meeting minutes for Mayor & Council and Boards/Commissions
• Manage branding, messaging, and visual identity across all Town communications
• Coordinate marketing and outreach for Town programs, services, and initiatives
• Oversee multimedia production (video, photography, cable programming)
• Monitor engagement metrics and adjust strategies based on performance
• Build and maintain strong relationships with media, residents, businesses, and community stakeholders
• Support real-time communications during emergencies and critical incidents
