Job summary

Legal Aid Chicago is seeking a paralegal in the Housing Practice Group to support the Early Resolution Program. The role involves client intake, screening, court filings, and direct interaction with clients, under attorney supervision.

The position requires residency in the Chicago metropolitan area and offers a hybrid work environment with comprehensive benefits. Start date is as soon as possible.

Qualifications

• Computer proficiency, including familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work well under pressure and learn new information.
• Ability to draft documents including letters and basic pleadings.
• Ability to gather information from clients and summarize it concisely.

Responsibilities

• Ensure smooth operations of the Early Resolution Program client registration.
• Conduct intake and comprehensive legal screening for new clients.
• Assist with providing brief services to clients including obtaining documents and court filings.
• Engage and provide administrative support to staff.
• Track data related to grants and assist with reporting.
• Attend training and maintain up-to-date knowledge on relevant issues.
• Make referrals inside Legal Aid Chicago and to external partners.
• Maintain case files and accurate timekeeping in the case management system.
• Other duties as assigned by Supervising Attorneys and Director.
