Unknown Company is seeking a Director of Accounting to lead the department, own month-end close, general ledger, payroll, and accounts payable oversight across multiple schools. You will build scalable processes and a team that can operate accurately and without burnout, while partnering with the CFO and other leaders.

The role is hands-on, requiring close collaboration with staff and cross-functional partners to ensure timely financial reporting and audit readiness.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited institution.
• 5–10 years of progressive accounting experience, including ownership of a monthly and annual close.
• Experience directly supervising accounting staff and setting clear expectations.
• Working knowledge of payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
• Command of debits, credits, and accounting workflow from transaction to financial statement.
• Ability to read, prepare, and explain financial statements to non-financial audiences.
• Understanding of restricted funds and federal grant drawdowns.
• Experience leading or supporting an external financial statement audit.
