Job summary

Mount Sinai Morningside is seeking a senior Data Engineer to design and implement scalable data pipelines and analytics platforms in a hybrid/remote setting with potential onsite interviews in New York. You will collaborate with applications, DBAs, and data scientists to deliver reliable data products.

Responsibilities include building cloud-based data solutions, mentoring junior engineers, and ensuring data quality and security in healthcare data environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field; advanced degree preferred.
• 5+ years in data engineering or related development roles.
• Strong knowledge of Azure with Data Factory and Databricks.
• SQL and NoSQL databases: Oracle, PostgreSQL/MySQL, MongoDB.
• Proficiency in at least two languages among Scala, Python, Java.
• Experience with RESTful services and microservices; Node.js, Django, PHP.
• Familiar with CI/CD, observability and Git version control.
• Exposure to Hadoop, Spark, Kafka; big data stacks and streaming tools.
• Healthcare data experience (HL7, Mirth) is a plus.
• Agile methodology experience; JIRA is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate data collection from diverse sources and ensure data quality.
• Build scalable, secure data pipelines serving multiple users.
• Collaborate in an Agile environment with developers, data scientists, and DBAs.
• Create infrastructure enabling insights from raw data across platforms.
• Develop big data and real-time analytics solutions with emerging tech.
• Prototype concepts and deliver complex data projects for research needs.
• Translate business requirements into modern data pipelines and diagrams.
• Maintain a centralized data catalog and metadata documentation.
• Design monitoring, backup, and disaster recovery for data systems.
• Ensure data integrity and security across storage and processing layers.
• Collaborate with IT professionals; comply with HIPAA and IRB policies.
• Document standards, procedures, and provide training to team members.
• Stay current with open source tools and cloud architecture (Azure/AWS).
• Mentor junior data engineers and participate in hiring decisions.
