AJ Tutoring, a Bay Area education company with over 20 years of experience, is seeking a College Counseling Associate & Academic Tutor. This hybrid role blends counseling with tutoring, working with high school students and guiding them through the college admissions process.

You do not need to be an experienced college counselor; we value strong writing, communication, judgment, and the ability to build relationships with students and families.

Qualifications

• A bachelor's degree is required.
• Experience with middle school, high school, or college-age students.
• Strong writing, editing, and communication skills.
• Teaching competency in at least one high school subject.
• Excellent organization and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple students and deadlines.
• Warmth and confidence communicating with teens and parents.
• Collaborative mindset and openness to feedback and professional development.
• Availability during after-school, evening, and some weekend hours.

Responsibilities

• Build strong, supportive relationships with students and their families.
• Help students explore interests, goals, and potential college options.
• Guide students through college research and the development of a thoughtful, balanced college list.
• Coach students through brainstorming, drafting, and revising college essays.
• Help students organize and complete applications accurately and on time.
• Manage deadlines and keep students moving forward through a multi-step process.
• Communicate regularly with parents about progress, priorities, and next steps.
• Collaborate with experienced AJ college counselors for guidance and feedback.
