Job summary

Whitman Advisory Job Community is seeking a Staff Accountant to maintain accurate client accounting records, respond to day-to-day needs, and support smooth year-end and tax processes in a fast-paced professional services environment.

The ideal candidate will be hands-on, reliable, and able to balance multiple client engagements while delivering timely financial statements and reconciliations. On-site work in Englewood, NJ is expected about three days per week with hybrid arrangements.

Qualifications

• Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required.
• Experience with data imports preferred.
• Yardi experience is a plus.
• Solid GAAP and general ledger knowledge.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Detail-oriented with ability to manage multiple assignments.

Responsibilities

• Provide general accounting and bookkeeping support for firm clients.
• On-site at Englewood, NJ office approximately three days per week, schedules vary.
• Serve as a day-to-day accounting resource and respond to routine questions.
• Perform monthly QuickBooks reviews, cleanup, and account maintenance.
• Post and code client transactions to GL accounts and classes.
• Prepare monthly bank reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
• Maintain the general ledger with journal entries.
• Prepare financial statements: balance sheets, income statements, cash flow reports.
• Reconcile GL balances and control accounts.
• Assist with year-end procedures: cash tie-outs, AP/AR review, 1099 prep.
• Organize client files for tax preparation and respond to related notices.
• Maintain follow-up lists and ensure timely resolution.
• Build strong client relationships and communicate proactively.
• Manage time between on-site responsibilities and other engagements.
