Job summary

R1 RCM Inc. seeks an Applied AI Engineer/Scientist to build and improve clinical AI agents and supervised ML models for revenue cycle workflows.

You’ll work at the intersection of software engineering, LLM systems, evaluation, and healthcare domain knowledge, delivering reliable production-grade solutions. You will be embedded in hard healthcare problems, turning complex medical records into auditable AI outputs, with a focus on documenting, coding, denial prevention, and payer logic.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of software/ML engineering or applied AI experience.
• Strong Python proficiency and production-grade systems experience.
• Experience turning messy workflows into well-defined AI problems and evals.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and iterate agentic AI systems for healthcare workflows.
• Develop long-horizon agent behavior across context, retrieval, tool use, and memory.
• Define success criteria and rubrics for clinical agents end-to-end.
• Create rigorous evaluation loops using production logs and benchmarks.
• Prototype capabilities and harden them into auditable production systems.
• Collaborate with research and ML engineering on model selection and tooling.
