Job summary

Hearst Magazines in New York City is seeking a Full Stack Ad Tech Developer to design and build scalable backend services and data pipelines powering advertising, audience insights, and revenue. You will develop APIs and front-end tooling with React/Node.js, and collaborate across engineering, analytics, and ad operations teams.

The role emphasizes privacy-by-design, performance optimization, and modern software practices.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in full stack software development with backend/data engineering focus.
  • Proficiency in Python, SQL and JavaScript.
  • Experience building apps with React and Node.js.
  • Hands-on experience designing ETL workflows and data pipelines.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (GCP or AWS) and serverless tech.
  • Familiarity with data warehouses (BigQuery/Redshift).
  • Experience with digital advertising tech ecosystems (Google Ad Manager, header bidding, OpenRTB).
  • Comfort using AI-assisted development tools and CI/CD practices.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting and collaboration skills.
  • Understanding of data privacy (GDPR/CCPA) and privacy-focused design.
  • Nice to have data governance BI tools (Looker/Tableau), real-time processing, ML pipelines, or RAG.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop scalable backend services processing advertising data via ETL pipelines.
  • Build data ingestion, transformation, and enrichment systems with ad tech integrations.
  • Develop APIs and internal tools for ad delivery, measurement, and reporting.
  • Create frontend apps and tools using React and Node.js.
  • Implement scalable data storage and processing across cloud platforms (GCP/AWS).
  • Collaborate across engineering, analytics, product, and ad ops teams.
  • Monitor and optimize apps, APIs, data pipelines, and integrations for reliability.
  • Contribute to automated testing, CI/CD, and privacy-by-design practices.
