Job summary

Simmons University in Boston invites applications for an Academic Advisor in the School of Library and Information Science. You will support online and on-campus MS LIS students, build relationships, manage expectations, and help students stay connected to Simmons community.

The role requires collaboration with the SLIS MS Program Director, University Registrar, and Student Life, with a 40-hour week and hybrid Boston-based schedule including some evenings/weekends.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree is required.
• MSLIS preferred; minimum two years of academic advising or equivalent.
• Experience advising online programs is a plus.
• Proven ability to develop relationships through remote engagement.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Strong time management, data and technology management, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Advise students on policies, handbooks, procedures, and program requirements.
• Provide preemptive guidance for graduate program lifestyle and success.
• Track and report student progress across data systems (Starfish, audits, LOA tracking, etc.).
• Participate in department meetings regarding complex student issues.
• Serve as first point of contact for academic plan questions and other needs.
• Support admissions process as needed.
• Participate in events ( webinars, orientation, etc.).
• Collaborate with stakeholders to support students and maintain LIS 400 orientation.
