Jobtailor in Grant, NY is seeking a Highway Maintenance Worker to operate heavy equipment, patch roadways, repair signs and bridges, and support snow removal and emergency response duties.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • For Highway Maintenance Worker/Senior: Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License with air brakes and tanker endorsements required within 60 days of employment
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with O Restriction and tanker endorsement required within 90 days of hire through the in-house CDL training program
  • Must be able to be placed on-call and respond during non-scheduled work hours, including holidays and weekends
  • Must be able to report to work for snow and other highway emergencies within 45 minutes under normal driving conditions
  • Ability to safely move, drag, and lift specified weights
  • Ability to climb, bend, and stoop
  • Ability to work in outdoor temperature extremes and around high-speed traffic
  • Ability to read and communicate effectively, give and receive instructions, and follow directions with minimal supervision
  • Basic computer and arithmetic skills
  • Ability and willingness to learn and adjust to new technology and processes
  • Ability to work safely and demonstrate safe and reliable practices and behaviors
  • Ability to interact positively with co-workers and supervisors, resolve conflicts, and make sound decisions

Responsibilities

  • Operate highway and maintenance equipment, including trucks, rollers, front-end loaders, tractors, motor graders, snowplows, draglines, backhoes, and distributors
  • Operate specialized equipment including lay-down machines, rock cutters, snoopers, pavement stripers, drilling or milling machinery, gas transports, semi-truck trailers, and chip spreaders
  • Identify preventative maintenance needs and participate in equipment servicing and repair
  • Maintain grounds and buildings of maintenance yards
  • Patch roadways, pavement surfaces, and structures
  • Repair signs and bridges, culverts, and other structures
  • Erect and remove snow fences
  • Move, drag, lift, load, and unload equipment, materials, supplies, and hazardous materials safely within weight restrictions
  • Spread and tamp surfacing materials
  • Train maintenance co-workers as needed in maintenance tasks, practices, and procedures
  • Perform snow removal and emergency response duties, including nights, weekends, and adverse weather conditions
  • Respond to emergency call-outs with short notice
  • Perform other duties as assigned
