Job summary

Amentum is seeking an intermediate HVAC/R maintenance technician to diagnose, troubleshoot, and perform preventive and corrective maintenance on facility HVAC and mechanical systems in an industrial and large commercial environment.

You will respond to work orders, maintain equipment, and ensure safety compliance while coordinating with site teams and clients. Strong communication and Microsoft Office skills are required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three years HVAC/R maintenance experience in industrial/commercial environments.
  • Ability to work in aerial lift or scissor lift up to 30 feet.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment substance abuse test.
  • Ability to obtain security access badge at the client location.
  • Must be able to obtain facility credentials/authorization; US Citizenship or PR may be required.

Job description

This position is responsible for providing an intermediate level of expertise in responding to work orders, troubleshooting, and providing preventive maintenance on the facility HVAC and mechanical equipment in an industrial, large commercial, or logistics distribution environment including clean rooms. This position is responsible for providing an intermediate level of expertise in responding to work orders, troubleshooting, and providing preventive and corrective maintenance on the facility HVAC and mechanical equipment.

Must have the ability to diagnose and troubleshoot all HVAC equipment and systems. Must demonstrate good written and verbal communication. The position must have the ability to identify and correct any safety-related issues and perform independent equipment evaluations to identify potential equipment failures. General Maintenance of equipment will also be required.

Responsibilities:
  • Ensure optimal and continuous operation of mechanical systems by performing routine inspections and maintenance, monitoring metering equipment and adjusting levels as necessary.
  • Identifying and correcting any safety-related issues and performing independent equipment evaluations to identify potential equipment failures.
  • Operating, maintaining, diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing ventilation equipment, pumps, fans, chillers, rooftop AHU’s, split systems, compressors, refrigeration, and other mechanical equipment as needed.
  • Utilizing the building automation system to track building conditions and the operation of facilities equipment.
  • Provide a level of expertise in the efficient operation of all HVAC systems.
  • Recharging refrigerant levels, checking for leaks, and ensuring the refrigerant cycle is functioning correctly in air conditioning, and refrigeration systems.
  • Utilizing strong mechanical and electrical skills to complete assignments.
  • Performing preventive and predictive maintenance on HVAC control and operating systems as scheduled from a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Responding and providing service and feedback to the customer on all work orders while assuring compliance to codes, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Performing the functions of the position including following proper safety guidelines such as job hazard analysis, lockout/tagout, and wearing PPE as required.
  • Operating various measuring, diagnostic, and testing instruments to help provide energy efficiency solutions.
  • Complying with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
  • Maintaining a strict schedule in order to be successful in the assignment.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by Management or Lead.

  • Strive for quick complaint resolution; to resolve problems on the first call and avoid escalation of issues through operational knowledge.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.
Minimum Requirements:
  • High school diploma or demonstrated equivalent.
  • Three years of experience as an HVAC/R maintenance technician in industrial and/or commercial environments or demonstrated equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to work in an aerial lift or scissor lift at heights up to 30 feet or higher.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, i.e., listening to customer needs, articulating path forward and giving solutions that provide value to the customer, etc.
  • Ability to pass a medical evaluation for respirator use and be able to successfully complete a fit test for several types of respirators.
  • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test.
  • Ability to obtain a security access badge at our client’s location.
  • Ability to read and understand information contained in a variety of documents or displayed on a computer screen. Demonstrated fluency in computer use including the full Microsoft product line.
  • Ability to obtain an appropriate driver's license issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles, as requested.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. Note: US Citizenship or Permanent Residency is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
  • This position does not include sponsorship for United States work authorization.
Preferred Requirements:
  • Technical degree preferred.
  • EPA Universal Refrigeration License or ability to obtain.
  • Experience working in a GMP or similar regulated environment such as hospitals, biomedical or pharmaceutical campuses
  • Ability to read and understand repair manuals, specifications, drawings, and schematic diagrams.
  • Experience working with heavy industrial or manufacturing plant steam systems, centrifugal chillers, air handling units, turbines, boilers, cooling towers, air compressors, air dryers, heat exchangers, exhaust systems, pneumatic controls, and building automation control systems.
  • Experience performing vibration data collection and analysis and/or using ultrasound testing equipment for predictive maintenance and condition monitoring.
  • Experience using a CMMS; Maximo experience is a plus.
  • Experience interpreting a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Physical Requirements:

  • Wear steel toe safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hard hats, and other Personal Protective Equipment as needed.
  • Cope with demands (stressors) that are associated with the job and/or the work environment.
  • Requires ability to read and understand information contained in a variety of documents or displayed on a computer screen.
  • Requires ability to use a variety of office equipment and to operate a computer keyboard to access databases, to send/receive messages and to prepare documents.
  • Requires ability to attend meetings throughout the site and potentially travel to other Amentum, customer and/or vendor locations in the area, as well as some air travel to more distant locations.
  • Requires the ability to communicate with others on the telephone and in one-on-one or group discussions, meetings, and presentations.
  • Demonstrated fluency in computer use including the full Microsoft product line.
  • Requires some moving of light to medium weight materials into desks, filing cabinets and other storage locations.
  • Requires the ability to interact with all clients in a professional and friendly manner despite periods of stress.
Other Attributes:
  • Must be willing to work overtime when required.
  • May be required to work holidays and weekends.
Compensation Details:

$28.00 - $30.64
