Job summary

SpaceX seeks an HVAC Technician (Facilities) for the 3rd shift at Cape Canaveral, FL. You will maintain and repair HVAC support equipment across air handlers, cooling towers, boilers and related systems, performing preventive maintenance and collaborating with Engineering to ensure peak performance.

The role requires an EPA 608 Universal certificate, a high school diploma or equivalent, and at least 1 year of relevant experience in HVAC, pneumatic, mechanical, or electrical systems.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair HVAC support equipment on facilities systems (air handlers, chilled water, conveyors, pumps, boilers).
• Perform preventative maintenance on facility HVAC systems and related equipment.
• Collaborate with engineering and management to keep systems in peak condition.
• Follow all safety and regulatory policies and SpaceX procedures.
• Perform ductwork mods, brazing, soldering, evacuation & charging of refrigerants.
• Maintain water piping and insulation; support compressed air and door systems.

HVAC TECHNICIAN (FACILITIES) - 3RD SHIFT

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Maintain and repair HVAC support equipment on facilities systems including air handlers, chilled water, condenser pumps, cooling towers, valves, filters, boilers etc.
• Complete preventative maintenance schedule on facility and launch associated HVAC systems
• Collaborate with engineering and managers to maintain systems in peak operating condition
• Follow all regulations and appropriate SpaceX procedures including quality policies, safety policies, and standards per (OSHA) The Occupational Safety and Health Administration, (EPA) United States Environmental Protection Agency, (NIOSH) National Institute of Occupational Health and Safety, (NFPA) National Fire Protection Association, (ASME) The American Society of Mechanical Engineers, (NEC) The National Electrical Code
• Perform ductwork modifications and various repairs
• Perform brazing, soldering, evacuation & charging of various refrigerants
• Perform water piping and insulation modifications and repairs
• Assist with maintenance of compressed air and industrial door systems

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or equivalency certificate
• EPA 608 Universal certificate
• 1+ years of professional experience working with HVAC, pneumatic, mechanical, or electrical systems

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

• Knowledge in the following areas: HVAC, electrical safety, pneumatic principles, tubing, pipefittings, rotating machinery (pumps, air compressors, etc.), and a variety of mechanical fasteners
• Universal certification from the Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute (ARI)
• Knowledge of high-pressure gas, flammable gas, and refrigeration gases
• Professional experience maintaining high efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters and standard air handling unit (AHU) filtration systems
• Basic understanding of the theory of operation for refrigeration, motors, heat pumps and mechanics
• Ability to maintain a safe and clean working environment while adhering to company policies, quality policies and industry standards
• VFD maintenance and troubleshooting experience
• Operating and performing maintenance from a building management system, eg. JCI Metasys

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to pass Air Force background check for Cape Canaveral
• Ability to work one of the following shifts:
  • Sunday - Wednesday 6:00pm - 6:30am
  • Wednesday - Saturday 6:00pm - 6:30am
• Ability to perform job duties that require standing, kneeling, crouching, twisting upper body, working in cramped positions in small opening and climbing hand over hand, lifting 50 lbs., and working on ladders/lifts at elevated heights, and operating industrial equipment
• Ability to work in an environment requiring exposure to fumes, odors, and noise
• Ability to work overtime as needed
