Job summary

UC Irvine is seeking an HVAC Technician to operate, maintain, and repair equipment serving campus facilities. The role requires reading as-built drawings, following manufacturer manuals, and using test tools to diagnose issues in the Central Plant and related buildings.

The position requires EPA refrigerant handling certification, respirator fitness, and four years of related experience or equivalent training. A strong safety mindset and ability to work varied shifts are essential.

Qualifications

• Ability to read as-built mechanical, electrical, and site drawings to diagnose HVAC/refrigeration malfunctions.
• Experience using manufacturers manuals and specs to operate and maintain equipment.
• Proficient with computers, microprocessors, and programmable controllers in HVAC systems.
• Must be able to wear a respirator and pass PPE requirements.
• EPA refrigerant handling certification is required.
• Two years of technical school training in HVAC/refrigeration, plus four years of related work experience.

Responsibilities

• Operate, maintain and repair equipment in the Central Plant and campus buildings.
• Identify and analyze equipment malfunctions from drawings and test tools.
• Coordinate with Facilities Management staff to ensure safe, efficient environmental controls.
• Follow safety protocols and wear PPE as required.
