Minnehaha County is seeking an HVAC Technician to join our facilities team in Sioux Falls. You’ll preserve and repair a range of systems across county facilities, from older equipment to advanced technology, in a steady Monday–Friday schedule.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED with four years of related experience; vocational training may substitute for two years. Valid driver’s license required; on-call work will occur as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED plus four years of work experience in equipment repair, plumbing, HVAC, or electrical.
• Two years of vocational school may substitute for two years of experience.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record; must meet County requirements.
• Pre-employment background check will be completed.
• Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical diagrams.
• Proficiency with computers, including Microsoft Office.
• Ability to work independently and on-call; occasional on-site work in a jail or institutional setting.

Responsabilités

• Perform skilled installation, troubleshooting, and repair of commercial HVAC systems.
• Service and maintain boilers, chillers, rooftop units, air handling units, VAV boxes, controls.
• Diagnose and repair electrical components of HVAC systems, including motor controls and switchgear.
• Perform basic plumbing tasks related to HVAC (e.g., soldering copper pipe, replacing valves and fittings).
• Read blueprints and technical diagrams; ensure compliance with codes and safety standards.
• Collaborate with a skilled team to support building comfort, efficiency, and system reliability.

Senior Facilities Maintenance Technician

What You Need to Succeed in this Role

High school diploma or GED plus four years of work experience in equipment repair, plumbing, HVAC, or electrical. Two years of vocational school may substitute for two years of experience. Comparable combination of education and experience may be considered. Technical training and considerable experience with HVAC equipment, electrical, or plumbing. Possession of a valid driver's license and must maintain a safe driving record with Minnehaha County. Must successfully complete pre-employment background process.
Knowledge of or experience using computer-aided statistical software and mapping applications. Considerable knowledge of the principles of electrical systems, HVAC, and plumbing installations. Considerable knowledge of the tools, equipment, and operating methods used in the testing, repair, construction, and maintenance of electrical, HVAC, and plumbing systems. Working knowledge of federal, state, and local codes, ordinances, and regulations related to plumbing, HVAC, electrical installations, and fixtures. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical diagrams. Proficiency with computers, including familiarity with Microsoft Office applications. Ability to work independently, manage assigned tasks, and complete work with minimal supervision. Work rotating 'on call' schedule. Will be required to carry a cell phone to be available for work outside of regular schedule. Employees must be available to report to work and be fit to safely and effectively perform assigned duties when periodically on-call and, accordingly, must remain free from the influence of alcohol or drugs in compliance with County policy.
