Job summary

JLL is seeking a Maintenance Technician in Pleasant Prairie, WI, to service ultra-low temperature freezers, cold rooms, and HVAC systems in a GMP environment. The role emphasizes meticulous documentation, adherence to SOPs, and timely response to equipment alarms.

You will collaborate with facilities, QA, and engineering teams, supporting validations and infrastructure upgrades while ensuring safe, compliant operations. This is a 1st shift, on-site role requiring physical work

Qualifications

  • Experience maintaining scientific/lab equipment in GMP environments.
  • HVAC/R related technical degree or certification.
  • GMP knowledge and equipment maintenance application.
  • EPA refrigerant handling certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on ultra-low temp freezers (-80C), cold rooms, and HVAC.
  • Maintain compliance with GMP SOPs and record activities accordingly.
  • Respond to alarms and emergencies to minimize downtime.
  • Document maintenance activities per GMP requirements.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and control issues on equipment.
  • Assist with validation and engineering projects for facilities.
  • Manage parts inventory and procurement coordination.
  • Collaborate with QA and facilities teams to ensure reliability.
  • Operate with minimal supervision; may require overtime/on-call.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on ultra-low temperature freezers (-80C), cold rooms, and HVAC systems
  • Execute maintenance activities in compliance with GMP regulations and standard operating procedures (SOP)
  • Respond to emergency calls and equipment alarms to minimize downtime of critical equipment
  • Document all maintenance activities according to GMP requirements
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and control system issues across specialized equipment
  • Participate in validation activities for new and modified equipment
  • Support engineering projects related to facility infrastructure improvements
  • Maintain accurate records of parts inventory and coordinate procurement of supplies
  • Collaborate with facilities team, quality assurance, and other departments to ensure equipment reliability
  • Must be able to work with minimal to no supervision
  • Work overtime or temporarily modify shift schedule as needed
  • Be part of on-call after hours
Preferred Qualifications
  • Technical degree/certification in HVAC, Refrigeration, or related field
  • Minimum 3-5 years' experience maintaining scientific or laboratory equipment, preferably in a GMP environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of refrigeration systems, particularly ultra-low temperature applications
  • Experience with building management systems (BMS) and environmental monitoring systems (EMS)
  • Proficiency in reading electrical schematics and mechanical drawings
  • Understanding of GMP requirements and their application to equipment maintenance
  • Valid EPA certification for refrigerant handling preferred
  • Strong documentation skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to work in various environmental conditions and lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to regularly climb extension ladders, roof ladders, stepladders, and stairs as required during shift.
  • Ability to stretch/reach on a repetitive basis during shift.
  • Ability to walk extensively throughout the facility during shift.
Work Environment
  • Work is performed in a regulated GMP facility
  • May require working in temperature-controlled environments
  • Some emergency/on-call duties may be required
  • Safety protocols must be strictly followed when handling refrigerants and working with electrical systems
  • Have the flexibility to bend/stoop, squat repetitive during shift.
Physical Requirements
  • Have the ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs
  • Have the ability to regularly climb extension ladders, roof ladders, stepladders, and stairs as required during shift
  • Have the flexibility to bend/stoop, squat repetitive during shift
  • Have the ability to stretch/reach on a repetitive basis during shift
  • Have the ability to walk extensively throughout the facility during shift
