Qualifications

  • EPA 608 certification required or ability to obtain within a defined period.
  • 2–4 years of hands-on HVAC maintenance experience in industrial/manufacturing environments preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC equipment, refrigeration, electrical controls, and preventive maintenance practices.
  • Technical training in HVAC, refrigeration, or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and adjustments on HVAC and refrigeration equipment, including air handling units, rooftop units, make-up air units, exhaust systems, chillers, pumps, motors, belts, dampers, valves, sensors, and controls.
  • Monitor HVAC and cleanroom environmental conditions, including temperature, humidity, air pressure, airflow, and particulate control, and respond to alarms or out-of-spec conditions.
  • Inspect, test, diagnose, and repair HVAC system malfunctions to minimize equipment downtime and production disruption.
  • Replace or clean filters, belts, bearings, motors, coils, sensors, and other HVAC components as needed to maintain system efficiency and reliability.
  • Assist with building automation system (BAS) operation and troubleshooting of equipment controls and monitoring systems.
  • Coordinate with maintenance, facilities, production, engineering, and outside contractors to complete repairs and support facility needs.

About the role

The HVAC Technician plays a key hands-on role in maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and supporting the heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, and cleanroom environmental control systems that support our photovoltaic manufacturing operations. This position helps ensure reliable equipment performance, proper temperature and humidity control, cleanroom air quality, and production uptime. The role works closely with facilities, maintenance, engineering, and production teams to perform preventive maintenance, respond to equipment issues, complete repairs, document work performed, and support a safe and compliant manufacturing environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and adjustments on HVAC and refrigeration equipment, including air handling units, rooftop units, make-up air units, exhaust systems, chillers, pumps, motors, belts, dampers, valves, sensors, and controls.
  • Monitor HVAC and cleanroom environmental conditions, including temperature, humidity, air pressure, airflow, and particulate control, and respond to alarms or out-of-spec conditions.
  • Inspect, test, diagnose, and repair HVAC system malfunctions to minimize equipment downtime and production disruption.
  • Replace or clean filters, belts, bearings, motors, coils, sensors, and other HVAC components as needed to maintain system efficiency and reliability.
  • Support operation and basic troubleshooting of building automation systems (BAS), equipment controls, and monitoring systems.
  • Assist with cleanroom air balancing, filter changes, equipment inspections, and environmental control activities.
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals, drawings, schematics, work orders, and preventive maintenance instructions.
  • Safely handle refrigerants in accordance with applicable EPA requirements and company procedures.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, service reports, parts usage documentation, and equipment inspection logs.
  • Coordinate with maintenance, facilities, production, engineering, and outside contractors to complete repairs and support facility needs.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical school, trade school, or apprenticeship training in HVAC, refrigeration, mechanical maintenance, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2-4 years of hands-on HVAC maintenance, repair, or facilities maintenance experience in an industrial, commercial, manufacturing, or cleanroom environment preferred.
  • EPA Section 608 Certification required or ability to obtain within a defined period; Universal certification preferred.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC equipment, refrigeration systems, electrical controls, mechanical systems, and preventive maintenance practices.
Desired Skills
  • EPA Section 608 Universal Certification preferred.
  • Experience maintaining industrial HVAC systems, chillers, make-up air units, air handlers, exhaust systems, pumps, and process cooling equipment.
  • Experience working with building automation systems (BAS) such as Johnson Controls, Siemens, Honeywell, or similar platforms.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, and control-related issues.
  • Familiarity with cleanroom environments, HEPA filtration, differential pressure, humidity control, and environmental monitoring preferred.
  • Basic computer skills for entering work orders, documenting maintenance activity, and reviewing equipment data.
  • Knowledge of lockout/tagout, electrical safety, hot work, confined space, and general industrial safety procedures preferred.

Working Conditions

  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing up to 50 lbs. as needed.
  • May require standing, walking, climbing ladders, bending, kneeling, reaching, and working in confined or elevated areas.
  • May require working at heights, on rooftops, or around operating mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Availability for on-call support and occasional weekend, evening, or off-shift work to address equipment issues or planned maintenance.
  • Exposure to varying temperatures, noise, dust, and mechanical equipment areas may occur.
