Job Overview
The HVAC Service and InstallTechnician is responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance ofheating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems in residential,commercial, and industrial settings. The role requires expertise in troubleshooting,system installation, and performing preventative maintenance. The idealcandidate will have strong technical skills, excellent customer serviceabilities, and a commitment to safety and compliance with local codes andregulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Install new HVAC systems, including air conditioners,furnaces, heat pumps, ductwork, and thermostats in homes, offices, and/or industrialsettings.
- Perform full system replacements and upgrades asneeded, ensuring compliance with manufacturer specifications and localbuilding codes.
- Layout and install complex piping systems for airconditioning, heating, and refrigeration systems but not limited to.
- Measure and cut ductwork, install insulation, and mountsystems to walls, roofs, and foundations but not limited to.
Service and Repair
- Diagnose and troubleshoot issues with HVAC systems,such as mechanical failures, electrical faults, or refrigerant leaks.
- Repair or replace defective components, such ascompressors, fans, electrical wiring, and control panels.
- Recharge refrigerant, test pressures, and ensuresystems meet efficiency and environmental standards.
- Conduct performance tests to ensure systems areoperating correctly and efficiently after installation or repair.
Preventative Maintenance
- Perform routine maintenance services such as cleaningair filters, inspecting systems, lubricating mechanical parts, andadjusting controls.
- Identify potential problems before they causebreakdowns and recommend repairs to improve system performance.
- Provide clients with maintenance schedules and servicerecommendations to ensure long-term system functionality.
Customer Interaction
- Communicate with customers to understand their heatingor cooling needs and provide professional advice on the best solutions.
- Explain repairs, services performed, and systemoperations to customers clearly and concisely.
- Provide accurate cost estimates for repairs, newinstallations, and maintenance services.
- Ensure customer satisfaction by delivering high-qualityworkmanship and addressing any concerns or questions.
Safety and Compliance
- Follow OSHA standards, local building codes, and HVACregulations to ensure a safe working environment.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) andadhere to safety protocols when handling refrigerants and electricalcomponents.
- Ensure all installations and repairs meet industrystandards and environmental guidelines for energy efficiency.
Qualifications and Skills
- Experience:
- Experience in HVAC installation, maintenance, andrepair.
- Experience working with a variety of HVAC systems,including residential and/or commercial units.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of heating, ventilation, airconditioning, and refrigeration systems.
- Proficient in diagnosing, repairing, and installingHVAC systems, including refrigerant handling.
- Familiarity with HVAC tools, equipment, and industrybest practices.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics,and technical diagrams.
- Problem Solving:
- Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills toidentify and resolve HVAC issues quickly and efficiently.
- Ability to recommend cost-effective andenergy-efficient solutions.
- Communication:
- Strong customer service skills to effectivelycommunicate with clients and explain technical information in anon-technical way.
- Team-oriented with the ability to collaborate withother technicians, contractors, and supervisors.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in various weather conditions,confined spaces, and at heights.
- Capable of lifting and carrying heavy equipment andtools (up to 50 lbs) and performing physical tasks such as bending,climbing, and standing for extended periods.
Education & Certifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Completion of an accredited HVAC training program orapprenticeship.
- State or local HVAC technician license is preferred.
- OSHA certification is a plus.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
