Responsibilities

  • Maintains safety and code compliance per state, local, and Board guidelines.
  • Repairs and maintains HVAC air conditioning and refrigeration units.
  • Repairs and maintains gas, hot water, steam and oil boilers and furnaces; rebuilds boiler fire boxes.
  • Maintains air handlers, ventilators, cooling coils, and radiators and other mechanical HVAC equipment.
  • Monitors control panels and thermostats to maintain target temperatures.
  • Performs preventative maintenance and boiler water treatments for HVAC equipment.
  • Installs and tests new equipment.
  • May be on 24-hour on‑call rotation.
  • Drafts, edits and proofs emails; reads and responds to communications.
  • Accurately orders and tracks materials and labor for assignments.

Reports to: Building and Grounds Manager

Job Classification:Exempt

Length:09-10 School Year

Job Goal: To help maintain the physical school plant in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of it may be made at all times.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required):
  • High School Diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Competed an apprenticeship
Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Maintains all safety and code requirements of the State, local and Board of Education guidelines.
  2. Repairs and maintains all types of air conditioning and refrigeration units.
  3. Repairs and maintains gas, hot water, steam and oil boilers and hot air furnace.Rebuilds and repacks burned out boiler fire boxes.
  4. Repairs and maintains air handlers, ventilators, cooling coils and radiators along with other mechanical heating and ventilating equipment.
  5. Monitors and coordinates control panels and thermostats of all systems to maintain standard working temperature.
  6. Performs regular preventative maintenance and boiler water treatment programs for all heating and air conditioning equipment.
  7. Install and tests new equipment.
  8. May be required to be on 24 hour call.
  9. Must possess written communication skills, including the ability to draft, edit, and proofread emails, as well as reading comprehension to respond to those emails.
  10. Accurately orders and accounts for material and labor relation to assignments.
Working Conditions and Physical Environment

Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer terminal; hear and understand speech at normal levels; physical agility to lift up to 50 pounds; to bend, to stoop, to sit on the floor, to climb stairs, to walk and to reach overhead. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to angry students/parents and neighborhoods considered to have high levels of violence potential.
