Job summary

The Hershey Company, Hazleton Plant, in Hazle Township, PA is a Union plant manufacturing Cadbury Caramello Bars, Cadbury Mini Eggs, Hershey's Milk Chocolate Bars and other products in a high-speed environment.

HVAC Specialist will interpret blueprints, maintain critical systems, and document repairs in SAP, with a strong emphasis on safety and accurate record-keeping across multiple shifts.

Qualifications

• Must have at least 3 years HVAC experience including electrical, plumbing, sheet metal and industrial refrigeration.
• Working knowledge of PLC controls, pneumatic controls, and building maintenance systems.
• Completion of Universal certification for refrigerant recovery and usage.

Responsibilities

• Interpret blueprints, P&ID's, piping schematics, electrical schematics, and specifications.
• Document repairs, troubleshooting steps, and parts used in the SAP work order system.
• Check equipment located external to the plant in all weather conditions.

Pay

• Starting Pay Rate: $40.86/hour
• 0.45 differential pay/hour for 2nd and 3rd shift (8 hour) and 0.60 differential pay/hour for 12-hour night shift

Shifts

• You must be flexible to work any shift, weekends, overtime, and holidays.
• Work schedule assignments upon hire are determined by plant needs. You will be assigned to 1st shift (6:50 PM - 3:00 PM) upon hire for training, then may be moved to a different shift upon qualification and seniority. You will be eligible to bid on other schedules, shifts and jobs when posted.
• Traditional Work Schedule (TWS): Regular schedule is 8-hour shifts, Monday through Friday. (1st shift: 6:50 AM-3:00 PM, 2nd shift: 2:50 PM-11:00 PM and 3rd shift: 10:50 PM-7:00 AM). Mandatory overtime could be weekly (scheduled for 12 hours/day, Monday through Friday), daily (additional 4 hours on your 8-hour shift) and weekends (8 to 12-hour shifts) which could be assigned up to 30 minutes prior to the end of the shift.
• Continuous Operations Schedule (COS): Rotation of 2-2-3 days on/off, with every other weekend off. You will be eligible for 1 mandated day in a 2-week period.

Candidate Process

• Qualified applicants will be required to complete a written HVAC skills assessment.
• Post-Offer Drug Screen and Background Check required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Interpret and understand blueprints, P&ID's, piping schematics, electrical schematics, engineering sketches, standards & specifications, gauges, meters, graphs, charts and reference tables.
• Document accurate information of equipment repairs, troubleshooting steps, parts used and time spent in SAP work order system.
• Check equipment located external to the plant, which requires walking, climbing, bending, etc. in all weather conditions.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must possess a High School diploma/GED.
• Must be flexible to work any shift.
• Must be available to work weekends, holidays, and overtime.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States.
• Must possess a minimum of three years' relevant experience in HVAC to include electrical, plumbing, sheet metal and industrial refrigeration.
• Must possess working knowledge of PLC controls, pneumatic controls, and building maintenance systems.
• Completion of Universal certification for refrigerant recovery and usage.
• Basic computer skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• SAP experience.
• Food manufacturing experience.
• Experience with Continuous Improvement methodology.
• Good attendance is very important.

Physical Demands

• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Regularly required to stand, reach, squat, crawl, bend, climb steps/stairs/ladders/scaffolding, and move around machinery.

Working Conditions

• Work will be performed inside and outside of a food manufacturing facility and onsite Wastewater Treatment Plant.
• The use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required to include but not limited to safety toe shoes/boots, ear plugs, safety glasses/goggles, hard hats, hair nets, hooded hair restraints, and gloves.
• Wearing company issued uniforms is a requirement.
