Job summary

Maricopa Unified School District is seeking a Maintenance Specialist II to assist with HVAC, electrical and plumbing maintenance, repairs and general facility upkeep. Under management supervision, you will support event setups, door hardware, moving equipment, light carpentry, painting, and routine projects including summer restoration work.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with physical plant maintenance and minor repairs in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, glazing, and painting; obtain bids and price quotes.
  • Assist staff with projects and build equipment and program materials as needed.
  • Set up facilities for events.
  • Maintain door hardware and key systems.
  • Move furniture and equipment to designated locations.
  • Perform maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, installing dead bolts, and constructing partitions.
  • Maintain HVAC systems and related components.
  • Assist in restoration of buildings and grounds during school vacations and coordinate summer work.
  • Keep equipment clean and in operating order; operate necessary machines and tools.

Position Description: MAINTENANCE SPECIALIST II (HVAC, Electrical & Plumbing)
Classification: Non-Exempt (12-Month Work Calendar)
Reports to: Maintenance Coordinator and Director of Business Services
SALARY: Approved Classifed Compensation Plan (Education and Experience)
Statement Of General Responsibilities

Under general direction of management personnel, assists in maintaining facilities. Does related work as required

Essential Functions And Principal Duties

Essential functions may include, but are not limited to:

  • Assists with physical plant maintenance and makes minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, glazing and painting repairs; receive bids and prices for work to be completed; conducts job walks as required.
  • Assists staff with various projects and builds special equipment and program materials as needed.
  • Sets up facilities for events.
  • Maintains door hardware and key systems
  • Moves furniture, classroom supplies and equipment to designated locations.
  • Performs other maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, installing dead bolts, and constructing partitions
  • Heating and air conditioning maintenance.
  • Assists in restoration of buildings and grounds during school vacation and in coordinating work activities of summer help.
  • Keeps equipment clean and in operating order.
  • Operates necessary machines, tools and equipment.
  • Performs related work as required.
Physical Requirements

Employees in this position must have the following ability:

  • Normal manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination required to operate power and motorized equipment using both hands.
  • Physical agility to frequently stop, kneel, bend, crouch, reach overhead, grasp, push, pull, lift and move objects up to 50 pounds shoulder height and occasionally lift in excess of 50 pounds with assistance.
  • Demonstrate normal depth perception.
  • Stand and walk for extended periods.
  • See and read printed matter, with or without visual aids, distinguish colors, read and understand rules and policies, labels and instructions.
  • Verbal communications including the ability to speak and hear at normal room levels.
  • Ability to use telephones and office equipment.

Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 10% sitting, 20% walking, and 70% standing. The job is performed under with some temperature extremes and some hazardous conditions.
