EMCOR Services Aircond is a leading provider of mission-critical HVAC services for data centers and commercial facilities. We seek an HVAC Service Technician II to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair critical cooling systems, perform preventative maintenance, and respond to service calls.

You’ll apply knowledge of HVAC, refrigeration, electrical troubleshooting, and controls, working with moderate supervision while building advanced expertise.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED required. Technical or Trade School training preferred.
  • EPA Section 608 Universal Certification required.
  • A minimum of 2 years of commercial HVAC service experience; controls, refrigeration, and equipment preferred.
  • Data center, healthcare, pharmaceutical, or other critical environments experience is a plus.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem solving skills.
  • Strong customer service, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to travel and work overtime as required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance on mission critical HVAC equipment (CRAC/CRAH units, air handlers, pumps, and related controls).
  • Inspect equipment, identify issues, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Replace motors, contactors, sensors, belts, and other components.
  • Assist with startups, commissioning, and operational testing.
  • Diagnose HVAC and refrigeration issues using meters, readings, and schematics.
  • Read wiring diagrams and equipment documentation; follow site procedures for critical environments.
  • Respond to service requests and participate in on-call rotation.
  • Support data center cooling infrastructure operations and energy efficiency improvements.

Position Summary

The HVAC Service Technician Class II, Mission Critical Services is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing commercial HVAC and mission critical cooling systems within data center environments. This position requires a strong foundation in HVAC service, refrigeration, electrical troubleshooting, and controls. Technicians are expected to perform preventative maintenance, respond to service calls, diagnose common equipment issues, and support the reliable operation of critical cooling infrastructure.

This role works with moderate supervision and is expected to independently perform routine service, maintenance, and repair activities while continuing to develop advanced technical expertise in mission critical HVAC systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

include but are not limited to the following:

HVAC Maintenance & Service
  • Perform preventative maintenance on mission critical HVAC equipment, including CRAC units, CRAH units, air handlers, pumps, package units, split systems, and associated controls.
  • Inspect equipment, identify developing issues, and recommend corrective actions to maintain reliable operation.
  • Replace common mechanical and electrical components including motors, contactors, sensors, belts, filters, bearings, and control components.
  • Assist with equipment startups, commissioning activities, and operational testing.
Troubleshooting & Repair
  • Diagnose and repair common HVAC and refrigeration system issues using electrical meters, pressure readings, control sequences, and manufacturer documentation.
  • Troubleshoot refrigerant circuits, airflow problems, electrical controls, and equipment performance concerns.
  • Read and interpret wiring diagrams, electrical schematics, and equipment documentation.
  • Respond to customer service requests and assist with emergency service activities.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation as required.
Mission Critical System Support
  • Support the maintenance and operation of data center cooling infrastructure.
  • Assist with troubleshooting chilled water systems, pumps, CRAC units, CRAH units, and related components.
  • Understand the importance of uptime, redundancy, and environmental control within critical facilities.
  • Follow all site specific procedures and operational requirements for mission critical environments.
Monitoring & System Analysis
  • Utilize BAS, BMS, and equipment monitoring systems to observe equipment operation and identify abnormalities.
  • Record maintenance activities, repairs, and inspection findings in work management systems.
  • Monitor system alarms and report issues requiring escalation or advanced technical support.
  • Assist in identifying reliability and energy efficiency improvements.
Safety & Compliance
  • Follow all company, customer, and regulatory safety requirements.
  • Adhere to lockout/tagout procedures, refrigerant handling requirements, and electrical safety practices.
  • Maintain accurate service records and required documentation.
  • Properly utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow mission critical site protocols.
Other Requirements
  • Execute other related duties as needed or assigned to support evolving business priorities.
Required Skills & Knowledge
Technical Expertise
  • Understanding of HVAC principles, refrigeration cycles, psychrometrics, airflow, and building environmental controls.
  • Working knowledge of commercial HVAC equipment, including package units, split systems, air handlers, pumps, and precision cooling equipment.
  • Ability to independently diagnose and repair common HVAC system issues.
  • Understanding of preventative maintenance practices and equipment reliability fundamentals.
Electrical Knowledge
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Working knowledge of electrical troubleshooting, motors, contactors, relays, sensors, and control circuits.
  • Basic understanding of VFDs, BAS/BMS platforms, and HVAC control systems.
Data Center Knowledge
  • Familiarity with mission critical environments and cooling requirements preferred.
  • Understanding of equipment uptime expectations and operational reliability concepts.
Computer Literacy
  • Proficiency with tablets, mobile service applications, email, and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
Physical Requirements
  • Capable of lifting equipment, climbing ladders, working in mechanical rooms, and performing physical tasks associated with HVAC service and repair.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma, GED required. Technical or Trade School training preferred.
  • EPA Section 608 Universal Certification required.
  • A minimum of 2 years of commercial HVAC service experience required. Experience working with controls, refrigeration systems, and commercial HVAC equipment strongly preferred.
  • Experience in data centers, healthcare, pharmaceutical, industrial, or other critical environments is a plus.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong customer service, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to travel and work overtime as required.
Pay Range
  • The pay range for an HVAC Service Technician II is $34 - 39/hr.
