Nueces County seeks a skilled MEP Facilities Maintenance Technician to diagnose, repair and maintain HVAC, electrical and plumbing systems across county facilities. The role may lead a small team and requires on-call duty during emergencies as directed by the Director.
You will maintain Metasys BACnet building automation, install components, and perform preventive maintenance. A two-year degree plus experience or an equivalent training path is required.
Responsible for diagnosing and implementing solutions to fix and properly maintain mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP) systems and county equipment, facilities and buildings. May serve as lead worker on tasks involving two or more employees. The employee is required to be on duty before, during, and after natural disasters and emergencies, as directed by the supervisor. This includes emergency and other on-call work, after routine work hours and on weekends, as required by the Director.
Performs a wide variety of preventive maintenance and repair work on equipment, building components and facilities, and MEP systems.

1) Associate's degree (A. A.) in a relevant field from a two-year college or technical school, plus three years of building maintenance experience; or 2) high school/GED diploma plus five years of building maintenance experience and/or relevant training in HVAC. Must be familiar, knowledgeable and experienced in using instruments such as Ohm meters, amp meters, drills, saws, and other mechanical and electrical equipment essential to performance of his/her duties.
Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities, may be considered for current Nueces County employees only.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Must communicate effectively, orally, in writing and via PC using Microsoft Office Software such as Outlook and Word.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts and properly prepare technical specifications in a scope of work. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Must have a valid Texas Motor Vehicle Operator’s License (Class C). Any employee who drives a vehicle on official business must have a driving record which meets standards set by the County and the County’s insurance carrier. Must pass a criminal background check.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. The employee must practice safe working practices to avoid risk from accident including electrical shock. The employee must be able to climb ladders and work in high places and occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Employee must adhere to county safety policies and procedures at all times, wearing safety goggles, ear protection, hard hats, steel toe boots and other protective gear.
