6BO IAP World Services, Inc. is seeking an HVAC Master Mechanic responsible for installing, servicing, and repairing environmental-control systems across various commercial establishments. Candidates should have 5 to 7 years of journey-level HVAC experience and must hold a High School diploma or equivalent, along with relevant certificates.
The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of HVAC functions, ability to operate chillers and boilers, and proficiency with required tools and software. This position requires an active Top Secret SCI Full Scope Poly clearance.
As the HVAC Master Mechanic, you will install, service and repair environmental‑control systems in residences, department stores, office buildings, and other commercial establishments, utilizing knowledge of refrigeration theory, pipefitting and structural layout, mounting compressor and condenser units on platforms or floors, using hand tools, following blueprints or engineering specifications, fabricating, assembling, and installing ductwork and chassis parts, using portable metalworking tools and welding equipment, and installing evaporator units in chassis or in air‑duct systems.
This mechanic also cuts and bends tubing to correct length and shape, using cutting and bending equipment and tools, cuts and threads pipe using machine‑threading or hand‑threading equipment, joins tubing or pipes to various refrigerating units by means of sleeves, couplings or unions, and solders joints using a torch to form a complete refrigerant circuit, installing expansion and discharge valves. The HVAC mechanic connects motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls, and circulating ventilation fans to control panels, connects control panels to power sources, installs air and water filters, injects small amounts of refrigerant into compressors to test systems, and adds Freon gas to build up prescribed operating pressure. The mechanic observes pressure and vacuum gauges, adjusts controls to ensure proper operation, tests joints and connections for gas leaks using gauges or soap‑and‑water solution, wraps pipes in insulation batting and secures them in place, replaces defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring, and may install, repair and service air conditioners ranging from fifteen to one hundred and fifty tons in warehouses and other large buildings.
High School diploma or equivalent; 5 to 7 years journey‑level HVAC experience; completion of an HVAC apprenticeship; FREON recovery certificate. Consideration will be given to relevant professional experience commensurate with assignment.
Extensive knowledge in specialized HVAC functions; comprehensive understanding of both general and specific aspects of the job and their practical application to complex problems and situations; proficiency with hand and power tools common to the trade; ability to interpret and apply codes, blueprints, wiring diagrams and engineering drawings; knowledge of ISO 9002 and JCAHO standards; competence with pneumatic and electronic controls and Trane Tracer Summit, Honeywell, and Johnson Controls software; experience with mechanical industrial water treatment, quality assurance and inspection; ability to operate and adjust boilers, service up to 150‑ton chillers and related HVAC equipment for energy management; maintenance and repair of refrigerated walk‑ins, reach‑ins, cold storage plants, air conditioning and environmental air conditioning systems up to 580 tons; experience with chiller systems up to 600 tons.
Active Top Secret SCI Full Scope Poly clearance is required.
