Job summary

Carroll County Government is seeking an HVAC Mechanic to service and maintain heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems across county facilities. Under supervision, you will perform routine and complex repairs, read schematics, and operate the Building Automation System to ensure optimal comfort and safety in government buildings.

You will collaborate with peers, follow safety rules, document daily activities in the CMMS, and assist with projects while meeting high standards of quality.

Qualifications

• GED or high school diploma required.
• Three or more years of related experience.
• Comparable amount of education and experience may substitute for minimum requirement.

Other Compensation Offered: Overtime, Compensatory Time, On-Call Pay, Call-Back Pay

What You Will Do

As an HVAC Mechanic, you will perform a full range of services on heating, ventilation, air conditioning equipment and systems in accordance with all applicable industry standards, laws and regulations. Under the direction of a Lead HVAC Mechanic or Facilities Supervisor, you will apply your HVAC knowledge and skills to provide services to all County buildings. We are looking for a well-rounded individual with an intermediate level of mechanical knowledge.

Essential Duties

• Perform intermediate maintenance services related to heating, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing, and stationary building equipment. Test, troubleshoot, make intermediate repairs and perform preventative maintenance, as needed.

• Inspect mechanical systems. Lay out and perform mechanical installations.

• Adjust and repair pneumatic systems.

• Operate Building Automation System.

• Gather proper materials and tools in preparation for jobs. Use resources effectively.

• Collect and record data using a Computerized Maintenance Management System, including logging daily work and preventative maintenance tasks.

• Read and interpret manuals, blueprints, and schematics.

• Independently run service calls and make emergency HVAC repairs as needed.

• Assist other HVAC Mechanics with projects and repairs. Perform other trades duties, as needed.

• Follow all established safety rules and regulations. Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work environment.

• Ensure all work is complete and timely to support department goals. Evaluate feedback and procedures to improve efficiency.

• Invite collaboration and seek learning opportunities. Proactively assist peers to create a supportive work environment.

Required Licenses and Certifications

• Valid driver's license

• CFC Type II certification

• A2L Refrigerant certification (or must obtain within six months of employment)

Additional Information

• Will be required to work outside of standard hours.

• May be identified as Essential Personnel during emergency situations.

• Requires criminal background check as condition of employment.

• Must meet Carroll County Risk Management driver eligibility requirements

Working Conditions

• Frequent exposure to potentially adverse environmental conditions, including, but not limited to, chemicals, noise, and airborne particles.

• Occasional exposure to potentially adverse weather conditions.

• Frequent physical activity: lifting and carrying over 75lbs, climbing ladders and steps, standing/walking, pushing/pulling, bending, reaching, squatting, stooping, kneeling, and related activities.

• Must wear appropriate PPE as required.
