Job summary

OpenTrain AI, Inc. is seeking an HVAC Expert for AI diagnostics and system design as a remote, contractor role requiring EPA Section 608 certification and at least 20 hours per week.

You will build realistic service scenarios, write reference answers, and evaluate AI responses for accuracy, efficiency, and safety. You will review and flag risky recommendations, ensure compliance with safety standards, and work asynchronously with weekly Stripe payments.

Qualifications

• EPA Section 608 certification required.
• State HVAC licensing where required.
• Two years of field experience in installation, service, or controls.
• Working knowledge of refrigeration cycles, airflow and load calculations.
• Excellent written English for documenting diagnostic reasoning.
• NATE certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Create and assess HVAC service scenarios testing diagnostics and design.
• Write reference answers detailing system behavior, charge selection, duct sizing, and operations sequence.
• Review AI responses for technical accuracy, efficiency and safety.
• Flag plausible but incorrect or dangerous recommendations, including compressor damage or CO risk.

The work

You will use practical HVAC service knowledge to create and assess scenarios that test how AI models handle diagnostics and system design.

• Create realistic service scenarios that move from symptoms through diagnosis and repair.
• Write reference answers explaining system behavior, charge selection, duct sizing, and sequence of operations.
• Review AI responses for technical accuracy, efficiency, and safety.
• Flag plausible but incorrect or dangerous recommendations, including advice that could damage a compressor or introduce carbon monoxide into a home.

Requirements, schedule, and payment

• Remote, asynchronous contractor work; a commitment of at least 20 hours per week is required.
• Open to candidates in the countries listed for this role.
• Clear written English is required for documenting diagnostic reasoning.
• You must have EPA Section 608 certification, state HVAC licensing where required, and at least two years of field experience in installation, service, or controls.
• You need working knowledge of refrigeration cycles, airflow, and load calculation.
• Experience in residential service, commercial refrigeration, controls, heat pumps, geothermal, high-efficiency systems, or building automation is helpful. NATE certification is also helpful.
• Payment is made weekly through Stripe.
