Job summary

Century Contractors, LLC is seeking an experienced estimator to prepare and coordinate full estimates for large, complex projects in North Carolina. The role requires reviewing RFQs, RFPs and bid documents to deliver complete conceptual and total bid prices.

You will develop RFIs, obtain pricing from materials and subcontractors, and produce cost analyses while maintaining accurate databases and vendor relationships to support bid success.

Qualifications

• Must have 8–10 years related estimating experience.
• Experience reading bid documents, blueprints and specs.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Knowledge of estimating systems and cost control best practices.

Responsibilities

• Review RFQs, RFPs and bid documents to define scope and approach.
• Develop RFIs for inconsistencies or missing information in contracts.
• Ensure timely completion of estimates and revisions for accuracy.
• Develop clarifications and exclusions to protect project scope.
• Obtain pricing for materials and subcontractors; verify scope.
• Prepare cost analysis recapitulating material, labor, equipment and subcontractor costs.
• Update database with labor and material data; maintain vendor/resource info.
• Attend departmental meetings and coordinate with teams to finalize bids.

• Responsible for preparing and/or coordinating the preparation of full estimates on large and complex projects as required by client's documents and providing complete conceptual and total bid price.

Primary Purpose

• Responsible for preparing and/or coordinating the preparation of full estimates on large and complex projects as required by client's documents and providing complete conceptual and total bid price.

Principal Duties And Accountabilities

• Reviewing and evaluating RFQs, RFPs and Bid Documents
• Developing RFIs for inconsistencies and missing information in the contract documents
• Ensuring timely completion of estimates
• Reviewing estimates and revisions for completeness and accuracy
• Develop pertinent clarifications and exclusions
• Reviewing construction documents and understanding scope of work to bid
• Executing Quickpen take-offs of construction documents
• Obtaining pricing for materials
• Obtaining bids and verifying scope from subcontractors
• Preparing cost analysis in computer by recapitulating material, labor, equipment, subcontractor and other direct costs incurred for the installation of items
• Making an estimate where predetermined standard(s) are not available
• Informing immediate supervisor of any observed inaccuracies or omissions in quoted item or computer database
• Update computer database labor and materials
• Developing and maintain resource information on products, vendors, subcontractors, government requirements, etc.
• Attending departmental meetings as required
• Print documents and plans
• Develop relationships with vendors and subcontractors
• Project turnover manuals

Skills & Requirements

• Being a team player
• 8 - 10 years of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and expertise
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as bid front ends, scopes of work, blueprints, safety programs, QA/QC manuals
• Speak effectively before groups of clients or employees
• Knowledge of Quickpen software (or similar estimating systems) is strongly encouraged
• Experience with estimating techniques and cost control
• Ability to perform detailed labor and material take-offs
