Job summary

Johnson Controls, Inc. in Ohio is seeking an experienced Senior Systems/Controls Engineer to supervise a team of engineers delivering hardware and software engineering and network commissioning for projects.

You will ensure compliance with code and safety standards while driving cost-effective execution. This role emphasizes leadership, cross-training, and collaboration with Major Projects and Branch teams, with a salary range of $100,000–$120,000 and a comprehensive benefits package available

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent with relevant experience.
  • Experience in HVAC programming/controls and supervisory roles.
  • Strong communication and cost management capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises a team of engineers to perform hardware, software, and network level commissioning for projects.
  • Ensures work complies with state, local and federal requirements and maintains high ethics.
  • Develops cost-effective engineering processes while delivering consistent results and customer satisfaction.
  • Acts as an expert in application engineering and collaborates with Major Projects and Branch teams.
  • Manages workload, prioritizes projects, and provides time estimates for job cost evaluation.
  • Develops and maintains processes, strategies and standards for the Systems Engineering team.
  • Seeks out new applications and implements improvements to quality, reliability and productivity.
  • Provides advanced technical support and serves as Regional expert in application engineering.
  • Leads team to select controllers and devices to meet specs and minimize total installation cost.
  • Uses reports to evaluate team success and maintains customer relationships.
  • Maintains high engineering standards and reuses proven designs and programs.
  • Performs complex engineering and supports network commissioning on assigned projects.
  • Hires, mentors, and plans development for direct reports with clear performance expectations.
  • Coordinates with Major Projects and Branch teams to ensure timely delivery.
  • Adheres to safety standards and emphasizes safety for employees and subcontractors.

What you will do

Supervises a team of Engineers to perform hardware engineering, software engineering and network level commissioning for Projects. Ensures work performed in compliance with state, local and federal legal requirements and operates on the job with the highest ethics.

Employ’ practices and develop processes to ensure cost-effective engineering while providing consistent delivery and customer satisfaction. Serves as an expert in application engineering. Works effectively with Major Projects and Branch teams.

How will you do it
  • Manages and schedules the workload of the Systems Engineering Team. Prioritizes work, supervises and coordinates projects to ensure progressand timely completion of the engineering deliverables. Provides timeframe estimates to project management for job cost evaluation.
  • Develops, implements, monitors and communicates the Systems Engineering team processes, strategies and standards. Provides engineering cost estimates during project development phases
  • Seeks out new and creative applications and operational techniques. Implements improvements in the processes, facilities, tools and equipment to improve quality, reliability, productivity, and to provide leading edge technology.
  • Provides advanced technical support on application or implementation issues. Serves as the Regional expert in application engineering.
  • Leads team of Systems Engineers to select controllers and end devices that will meet the specification and minimize the total cost of installation to ensure that the project cost comes in below estimate.
  • Utilizes financial, contract management and other management reports to evaluate team success.
  • Develops and maintains viable relationships with customers, consultants and architect engineers. Leverages these relationships as needed during project development and execution.
  • Maintains high level of engineering standards. Ensures maximum reuse of proven designs and programs.
  • Performs complex engineering and supports network commissioning as required on assigned projects.
  • Hires, retains, mentors, performance managers, and plans for career development of direct reports. Prepares and delivers clear performance expectations, performance reviews and development plans for direct reports.
  • Works with Major Projects and Branch teams to ensure timely delivery of engineering deliverables in order to maximize successful execution of projects.
  • Adheres to safety standards. High degree of regard to employee and subcontractor safety.
What we look for
Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, with a minimum of two years in experience in Application engineering.If no degree a minimum of eight years HVAC programming/controls experience.
  • Prefer a candidate with Johnson Controls systems experience.
  • Experience in the HVAC industry, programming controls.
  • Prior experience in supervision of technical / engineering group.
  • Minimum of five years of progressive responsibility in the construction industry.
  • Recognized as a leading expert in several core engineering competencies.
  • Understands accounting principles and cost management.
  • Good oral and written communication skills, especially in presentation of technical material.

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $100,000 - $120,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
