Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an engineer to design hardware and software for building automation systems in North Carolina. You will work with project teams to deliver direct digital control solutions across various building types, review contract documents, and create comprehensive drawings and manuals.

The role requires a degree in engineering or substantial HVAC-related experience, proficiency with drafting programs, and familiarity with IT/network basics.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or related field or 3+ years in HVAC/adjacent industry with project management or estimating experience
  • Practical experience and alignment with leadership principles prioritized for non-degree candidates
  • Experience with a drafting/design program is required
  • Familiarity with new construction and renovation/retrofit, performance contracting, and service project management preferred
  • Familiarity with operation and design of HVAC Systems, Building Automation Systems, and/or Temperature Controls preferred
  • Proficient with Windows OS and Microsoft Office
  • Understanding of IT infrastructure and network architecture
  • Safety Sensitive role may require passing additional drug screening

Responsibilities

  • Perform hardware and software design activities for building automation systems
  • Apply engineering principles and practices on assigned projects
  • Design cost-effective control solutions to meet project requirements
  • Work directly on the project team to assist the Project Manager
  • Design building controls utilizing direct digital controls for various building types
  • Obtain and review contract documents, proposals, mechanical plans, specifications, estimates, equipment submittals, and related materials
  • Create installation, submittal, as-built, and transition-to-service drawings
  • Develop advanced sequences of operations meeting project requirements
  • Generate Operation and Maintenance Manuals
  • Conduct job surveys and review equipment submittals
  • Transition documents to the field
  • Maintain knowledge of Trane Controls products, offerings, and applicable third-party devices
  • Prepare project cost estimates as needed
  • Assist BAS Technicians with wiring/programming, electrical terminations, commissioning, graphic development, testing, and startup
  • Work with minimal supervision and advise or guide other engineers
  • Investigate customer concerns, implement corrective action, communicate with staff, and provide customer feedback and solutions

Job description

Requirements
  • Degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Construction or Engineering Technology, or other related areas; or three (3) plus years of experience in the HVAC or adjacent industry performing project management or estimating roles; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Candidates without a 4-year degree are encouraged to apply; practical experience, relevant skills, and alignment with leadership principles prioritized
  • Experience with a drafting/design program is required
  • Familiarity with new construction and renovation/retrofit, performance contracting, and service project management preferred
  • Familiarity with operation and design of HVAC Systems, Building Automation Systems, and/or Temperature Controls preferred
  • Windows operating system and Microsoft Office product knowledge
  • Understanding of industry standard protocol and requirements for integration preferred
  • Understanding of IT infrastructure and network architecture
  • Safety Sensitive role may require passing additional drug screening
