Job summary

JLL in Nashville, TN is seeking an HVAC Controls Engineer to perform preventive maintenance, installation, and programming across multiple BMS platforms, translating SOPs into effective controls sequences.

You will troubleshoot, calibrate sensors, install low-voltage wiring, and collaborate with vendors and project teams on energy optimization. Travel up to 75% and on-site work are required; visa sponsorship is not provided.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of technical experience with building automation systems.
  • Understanding of HVAC systems and principles.
  • Familiarity with multiple BMS platforms.
  • Basic programming capabilities on building automation systems.
  • Ability to interpret SOPs and technical documentation.
  • Experience with low voltage control installation and conduit work.
  • Sensor calibration and verification techniques.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-starter with strong interpersonal skills.

  • Troubleshoot and repair building automation systems
  • Apply HVAC principles to optimize system performance
  • Identify energy savings opportunities through BAS optimization
  • Perform basic programming tasks with minimal supervision
  • Assist with integration of different control systems

What this job involves:

The HVAC Controls Engineer will perform preventive maintenance, installation, and programming work across multiple building management systems including Siemens, Alerton, Distech, Honeywell, Automated Logic, Trane, and Niagara N4. This position requires understanding HVAC principles and the ability to translate Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) into controls sequences. Work includes hands-on troubleshooting, installation, programming, and maintenance within JLL standards and guidelines.

What your day-to-day will look like:
  • Manage use of vendors and act as project manager.
  • Install low voltage controls including running of conduit, mounting of devices and sensors
  • Perform sensor replacement, point-to-point check out, verification and calibration

Required Qualifications:
  • Valid state driver's license
  • 2+ years of technical experience with building automation systems
  • Understanding of HVAC systems and principles
  • Familiarity with multiple BMS platforms
  • Basic programming capabilities on building automation systems
  • Ability to interpret SOPs and technical documentation
  • Experience with low voltage control installation and conduit work
  • Proficiency in sensor calibration and verification techniques
  • Computer proficiency including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Self-starter with strong interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of BAS/HVAC system design and application
  • Knowledge of Low voltage Electrical
  • Experience with multiple BMS platforms
  • Understanding of controls sequencing
Location

Based in Nashville, TN. 100% travel (70% travel around Nashville, 30% travel around Tennessee with potential overnight stay)

Physical Requirements:
  • Regularly lift to 10 pounds, Frequently lift to 50 pounds, Climb ladders up to 30 ft
  • Work in mechanical rooms and potentially extreme weather conditions
  • May be exposed to voltages ranging from 24v-480v
  • May be exposed to moving mechanical parts, heavy equipment, wet/humid conditions, high places, fumes, airborne particles, risk of electrical shock, and vibration
  • Truck-based position with travel to various locations up to 75% of the time
  • Daily team interaction in person, by phone, and via email
  • Work in mechanical rooms and potentially outdoors in varying weather conditions
