Job summary

Honeywell Technologies in New Jersey is looking for an HVAC Apprentice to learn under seasoned field technicians while assisting with installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of commercial HVAC systems.

Joining the UA Local apprenticeship program, you will travel within Central to Northern New Jersey and gain hands-on experience, safety discipline, and customer-focused service in a structured environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Membership in, or eligibility to join, the Local Union is required.
  • 0–1 year of basic mechanical aptitude and a desire to learn HVAC.
  • Ability to pass background checks and drug screening.
  • Valid driver’s license with clean record.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in various conditions.
  • Willingness to travel Central to Northern New Jersey.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Journeyman HVAC Technicians with installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of commercial HVAC systems.
  • Learn to inspect, test, and diagnose HVAC equipment under supervision.
  • Assist with preventive maintenance on HVAC and refrigeration equipment.
  • Support installation and service of chillers, boilers, rooftops, air handlers, pumps.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and wiring diagrams.
  • Safely use hand and power tools and trade equipment.
  • Follow safety requirements and document service progress.
  • Travel to customer locations throughout Central to Northern New Jersey.
  • Complete apprenticeship training and classroom instruction.

Job Description

As an HVAC Apprentice here at Honeywell, you will work under the direction of experienced HVAC Service Technicians to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair commercial HVAC and mechanical systems. Candidates will be required to join the applicable union apprenticeship program, which provides structured technical training and hands‑on field experience to support skill development.

You will report directly to our Field Service Manager and work out of our New Jersey location on a Hybrid work schedule.

In this role, you will support the installation and service of commercial HVAC equipment while learning industry best practices, maintaining a safe work environment, and contributing to Honeywell's commitment to customer satisfaction and operational excellence.

Responsibilities
  • Assist Journeyman HVAC Technicians with the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of commercial HVAC systems and mechanical equipment.
  • Learn to inspect, test, and diagnose HVAC equipment under the supervision of experienced technicians.
  • Assist with preventive maintenance activities on heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment.
  • Support the installation and service of chillers, boilers, rooftop units, air handlers, pumps, and related HVAC systems.
  • Learn to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Safely use hand tools, power tools, testing instruments, and trade‑specific equipment.
  • Follow all Honeywell, customer, OSHA, and union safety requirements.
  • Maintain accurate service documentation and communicate job progress with the field service team.
  • Travel to customer locations throughout Central to Northern New Jersey.
  • Complete apprenticeship training requirements and participate in classroom instruction as required by UA Local 9 or UA Local 475.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Current membership in, or eligibility to join, the Local Union.
  • 0-1 year of basic mechanical aptitude and a strong desire to learn the HVAC trade.
  • Ability to safely use hand and power tools.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to pass required background checks and drug screening for customer sites.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, work from lifts, and perform physically demanding work in various weather conditions.
  • Willingness to travel throughout Central to Northern New Jersey.

  • Enrollment in or completion of the Local Union apprenticeship program.
  • Basic knowledge of commercial HVAC equipment, refrigeration systems, controls, or mechanical systems.
  • EPA Universal Section 608 Certification or willingness to obtain it.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and continuous learning.
