Job summary

Scheels is seeking a part-time Sales Associate in Springfield, IL. Greet customers warmly, identify needs, and promote products and the Scheels Visa. Contribute to personal sales goals while maintaining a high standard of visual merchandising.

Work a schedule including evenings and weekends with a typical 20 hours per week. Training, employee ownership benefits, and team support are provided.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1–3 months sales experience preferred.
• Able to stand, walk, and assist customers on the sales floor.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers on the sales floor with courtesy and a smile.
• Engage with customers to assess needs, promote products, and encourage Scheels Visa.
• Grow personal sales by meeting goals and following professional sales standards.
• Create a positive end-user experience based on products purchased.
• Maintain visual merchandising and assist with freight processing and restocking.
• Demonstrate product usage and access items up to 6 ft high.
• Attend product training and store meetings; train new associates as needed.
• Navigate computers and handheld scanners (AS400, Microsoft Office, Google tools).
• Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.

Responsibilities:

• Greet all customers on the sales floor with genuine courtesy and a smile, to ensure they feel welcomed the moment they enter your shop
• Deliver exceptional customer service by seeking out and engaging with customers, going through the steps of the sale to determine their needs, recommending appropriate products, and promoting the Scheels Visa Credit Card
• Grow personal sales by consistently hitting set goals and following Scheels' professional salesmanship standards and the steps of the sale to provide an above-and-beyond customer experience
• Create a positive end-user experience based on the products the customer is purchasing
• Maintain a high standard of visual merchandising and support the team with freight processing and inventory restocking
• Ability to demonstrate product usage within their shop and retrieve product from heights of greater than 6 ft
• Attend all required Scheels product training and all store meetings
• Assist in the training of new associates in the areas of the store's expertise
• Ability to navigate a personal computer and a handheld inventory computer/scanner. Programs include: Microsoft Office, Google Email / Docs, and AS400
• Assist in all other assigned duties by the leadership team

Education & Experience:

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 1-3 months of sales experience

Physical Requirements/Lifting Requirements:

Must be able to sit, stand, bend at the waist, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, walk, push/pull, lift, talk, and hear with or without reasonable accommodation.

Heavy work - Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Compensation/Schedule:

Compensation for this position is hourly plus commission and averages $18-21 hourly. Must be flexible to work assigned schedule between 5p.m. and 9p.m., Monday through Friday (daytime hours may be available), 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Saturday and 10a.m. and 6p.m. Sunday. Schedule may include varied hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Average hours per week is 20 hours.
