Job summary

Commercial Casework Inc. is seeking a senior HR professional to partner with operations, oversee the full employee lifecycle, and drive policy compliance across California locations.

You will lead recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and employee relations while managing compensation, benefits, and ESOP-related communications. Bilingual English/Spanish is required, with a strong knowledge of CA and federal law.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 5+ years HR generalist or HR management experience; construction/millwork background a plus.
  • Strong working knowledge of California and federal employment law.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish required.
  • Proficient in using computer and Microsoft Office; HRIS/payroll experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a strategic HR partner to operational leaders, coaching on performance management and policy compliance.
  • Develop and implement HR strategy, goals, and system improvements.
  • Own full employee lifecycle: recruiting, onboarding, performance management, offboarding.
  • Manage full-cycle recruitment: postings, screening, interviewing, offers.
  • Maintain employee handbook; enforce HR policies across locations.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and California employment laws (FEHA, ADA, FMLA/CFRA).
  • Lead employee relations, including investigations and disciplinary actions.
  • Administer compensation and benefits programs, including medical/dental/vision, 401(k), ESOP, PTO, and bonuses.
  • Collaborate on retention strategies and management training.
  • Manage leave of absence requests and accommodations.
  • Design and deliver training for supervisors on HR topics.
  • Oversee payroll-adjacent HRIS recordkeeping and reporting.
  • Handle new hire paperwork and HR data accuracy.
  • Support ESOP education and communications.

Our headquarters is in Fremont, CA, and we recently opened a second location in Sacramento, CA. Job Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Serve as a strategic HR partner to operational leaders, coaching and guiding them on performance management, corrective action, and other matters of organizational risk to drive performance and adherence to company policy.
  • Develop and implement HR strategy, objectives, goals, and system improvements to support continuous improvement across the organization.
  • Own the full employee lifecycle, including recruiting, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, performance management, and offboarding.
  • Manage full-cycle recruitment: draft and post job requisitions, screen and interview candidates (running background checks and calling references), coordinate hiring decisions with department managers, and extend offers.
  • Maintain the employee handbook; develop, implement, and enforce HR policies and procedures, ensuring consistency across all locations.
  • Ensure organizational compliance with federal and California employment law, including FEHA, ADA, FMLA/CFRA, wage and hour requirements, and other applicable state and local regulations.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employee questions and concerns, partnering with leadership and interpreting HR/company policy to ensure consistency.
  • Lead employee relations efforts, including conflict resolution, workplace investigations, and disciplinary processes, in partnership with management.
  • Administer compensation and benefits programs, including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), ESOP contributions, and PTO; support annual open enrollment and benefits communication.
  • Collaborate with management on employee retention strategy, identifying at-risk employees and coaching and training managers on retention best practices.
  • Manage leave of absence requests and workplace accommodations, ensuring compliance with applicable federal and state law.
  • Design and deliver training and development programs for supervisors and managers on HR-related topics such as performance management, coaching, and employment law compliance.
  • Oversee HRIS and payroll-adjacent recordkeeping, ensuring accurate and up-to-date employee data.
  • Facilitate completion of required documents related to pay, benefits, and policies, as well as new hire paperwork.
  • Track and report on HR metrics such as turnover, time-to-fill, and retention to support data-driven decision-making.
  • Support ESOP-related employee education and communication in partnership with leadership.
  • Handle offboarding and exit interview processes in collaboration with the Department Manager and Accounting.
Pay & Benefits:
  • Salary of $110,000.00 to $125,000.00 annually, depending on experience
  • Company pays 100% of Medical benefits for employees (80% for dependents)
  • Company pays 100% of Dental and Vision benefits for employees and dependents
  • 15 PTO days to start, up to 25 days based on years of service
  • 10 paid holidays
  • 401(k), Traditional or Roth, with employer matching up to 3%
  • ESOP contributions
  • Quarterly bonus (variable), historically averaged 15-25% of base salary

Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 5+ years of progressive HR generalist or HR management experience required; experience in construction, manufacturing, or millwork a plus.
  • Strong working knowledge of California and federal employment law.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is required.
  • Proficient in using a computer and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.); experience with HRIS/payroll systems a plus.
  • Experience with payroll processing is desired but not required.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • PHR-CA, PHR, SHRM-CP, or similar HR certification highly preferred but not required.
  • Experience with a union workforce is desired but not required.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, maintain accuracy on critical records and data entry, and work independently with strong self-management skills.
Physical Requirements:
  • Primarily sedentary work performed in an office setting, requiring the ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
  • Facility and production floor walkthroughs are minimal but should be expected as part of routine duties (e.g., training, safety walkthroughs, investigations, new hire orientations).
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25-40 lbs (files, supplies, HR materials).
  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for regular computer and keyboard use.
  • Visual acuity sufficient to review documents, data, and computer screens for extended periods.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in person, by phone, and in writing.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, or reaching to access files and records.
