Job description

Job Summary

The Human Resources Intern supports day-to-day HR operations while gaining hands on experience in onboarding, learning and development, recruiting, employee engagement, and HR administration. A key focus of the role is advancing McKenney's onboarding program by partnering with Charlotte teams to understand current practices and help develop structured, department specific onboarding plans.

Key Responsibilities
Onboarding Support
  • Prepare new hire materials, orientation resources, PPE, and other onboarding supplies.
  • Support new hire communications, scheduling, documentation, and onboarding follow up.
  • Assist with tracking completion of preboarding requirements and escalating outstanding items to the HR Coordinator.
  • Support orientation day logistics to help create an organized and welcoming new hire experience.
Learning & Development
  • Support the development of department specific onboarding plans that provide new employees with a structured path for learning their roles.
  • Meet with managers and employees across departments to understand current onboarding practices, training needs, key responsibilities, and role specific learning expectations.
  • Document existing departmental onboarding and training processes and identify common themes, gaps, inconsistencies, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Partner with HRBP and department leaders to organize onboarding activities into clear learning plans, milestones, resources, and recommended timelines.
  • Develop and maintain onboarding resources, checklists, guides, training materials, and other tools that support managers and new employees.
  • Assist with gathering feedback from new hires and managers to evaluate the effectiveness of department specific onboarding plans.
  • Research onboarding, training, and learning practices and bring forward ideas that could strengthen the employee learning experience.
  • Support additional learning and development initiatives and projects as assigned.
HR Administration
  • Maintain HR trackers, spreadsheets, calendars, and other administrative resources.
  • Assist with document organization, scanning, filing, and record maintenance.
  • Support general HR requests and administrative needs assigned.
Recruiting Support
  • Assist with scheduling interviews and greeting candidates as they come in.
  • Support preparation for career fairs, recruiting events, and other talent acquisition activities.
  • Help organize recruiting materials, supplies, and event logistics.
  • Assist with candidate and recruiting data tracking.
Early Talent Support
  • Support internship and co-op program activities throughout each program term.
  • Assist with early talent orientation, communications, events, and program logistics.
  • Help coordinate learning opportunities, networking events, and engagement activities for interns and co-ops.
  • Maintain program calendars, participant information, and other early talent resources.
  • Gather participant feedback and assist with program surveys and follow up.
Employee Engagement
  • Assist with planning and coordinating Charlotte employee engagement events and activities.
  • Support the Charlotte Engagement Committee with event logistics, communications, materials, and preparation.
Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing or a recent graduate of a degree program in human resources, Business, Psychology, Communications, Education, or a related field.
  • Interest in pursuing a career in Human Resources or a related field.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
